It’s not that they have so much money, it’s that they spend all their money on housing.

When my parents were shopping for what ended up being the house I grew up in, the loan officer at the bank told them that one year’s income was how much of a mortgage they’d qualify for, that’s how much house they could afford. Most people today spend 2 or 3 times that much.

Doctors offer to give free flu shots to detained migrants, warn Trump admin. of epidemic

“As physicians, we have seen the effects of flu infections…The outcomes can be devastating.”

A group of physicians, alarmed that the Trump administration is denying flu vaccines to immigrants in custody, is urging the Department of Homeland Security to accept its offer to provide free flu shots to California detainees.

In a Nov. 5 letter, the doctors pleaded with the administration to reconsider its decision to not vaccinate detained migrants for flu despite the deaths of at least three children in CBP custody during the 2018 flu season.

On September 9th, Taylor texted to Sondland: As I said on the phone, I think it’s crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign.

Five hours later, Sondland texted back: Bill, I believe you are incorrect about President Trump’s intentions. The President has been crystal clear no quid pro quo’s of any kind. …

My belief is that Sondland said explicitly to Trump that Taylor suggested that there was a quid pro quo and that Trump repeated back Sondland’s own words, denying a quid pro quo.

Doctor Who spinoff novels sort of already done it in the early nineties. Doctor Who spinoff novels sort of already done it in the early nineties. Andrew Cartmel’s CAT’S CRADLE:WARHEAD has the U.S. of circa 2008 as an environmentally damaged corporate fascist police state under President Charles “Chuck” Norris in which the symbol of the Republican Party is an American flag with the stars replaced by a Christian cross.

Not bad. Difference or I actually think Norris is a true believer religiously while Trump has never sincerely knelt in prayer.

I’m reminded of Norman Spinrad’s “World War Last” which is in his “Other Americas” anthology. It features a psychotic Middle Eastern dictator, a dead Russian president, a car dealer who became America’s president…

Plus nukes. A weapons system made from a video game. A Middle Eastern country that is high on pot, testing urine for MINIMUM THC’s! An animatronic Soviet leader.

And nukes.

Easiest and quickest way to shut this down?

Ask two simple questions: “Was Hunter Biden listening in on the July 25th phone call?” and “Did Hunter Biden speak with Trump about that phone call prior to the release of the Ukrainian aid?” Since we all know that the answer to both questions is “No,” then Hunter Biden’s testimony is totally irrelevant, at least according to the very standards that the Repubs have set in order to attack prior fact witnesses who’ve testified before the committee.

So Zuckerberg had a “secret dinner” with Trump and Peter Thiel…

nbcnews.com

President Donald Trump hosted a previously undisclosed dinner with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook board member Peter Thiel at the White House in October, the company told NBC News on Wednesday.

The meeting took place during Zuckerberg’s most recent visit to Washington, where he testified before Congress about Facebook’s new cryptocurrency Libra. Zuckerberg also gave a speech at Georgetown University the week before, detailing his company’s commitment to free speech, and its resistance to calls for the company to crack down on misinformation in political ads.

Gee, I wonder what those three assholes are cooking up??????

I’m pretty sure there was a tweet posted here yesterday or the day prior about Horowitz being scheduled to testify on the 11th. IIRC, it was about how “sources” in the DOJ said that the report’s conclusion would not delegitimize the Russia investigation.

Insomniac, and impressed by all of our Democratic candidates. Even Tulsi and Bernie would at least be a step up from Trump-that is, if he’s the nominee next year. I’ve dismissed the notion that someone else would be the Republican nominee as “conspiracy theory lite”, but after this last week, I’ve started to wonder if Trump will even try to campaign, or if he’s well enough to do so. His two oldest rivals, Biden and Bernie both look healthier than him, and more vigorous too.

As for the impeachment, few think that more than one or two Republican Senators will vote to convict. He may say he’s “exonerated” but only Presidential immunity of a sort keeps him out of jail. And the details coming out of the impeachment hearings are just devastating. Between health, and possible legal issues, could he just pack it in?

For a while I read some rumors that Ivanka would be named as a running mate, replacing Pence on the ticket. Crazy, but not impossible. It happened before with Truman, running with FDR, replacing the current VP on the ticket. LBJ decided not to run, but that didn’t mean that others couldn’t be the Democratic nominee, and if Humphrey decided not to run either, the Democrats could have nominated and elected a whole new ticket. Head of the party does not have to be the nominee, like other systems.

It would need no congressional vote to do this. Pence would remain VP until the term runs out, and then if Trump wins another term, she would be VP. Now that Trump has decided to become a resident of Florida, the entire issue of electoral votes in the same state is moot. The Constitution says that a Vice President and President who run from the same state forfeit that state’s Electoral votes. It’s never been tested for a good reason: non-related politicians from the same state are usually rivals, and nobody wanted to forfeit Electoral Votes especially in close races because of putting that rival on the ticket.

I mentioned earlier, but Trump was too ham-handed to create some layers of deniability by simply asking Zelinski to open a series of investigations in which the Bidens would feature prominently He made it clear that all he dared about was an announcement of a Biden investigation, and that brazen approach was what prompted the whistleblowers and witnesses to call him out on it.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area.

The GOP will continue to distance themselves from reality, and Fiona Hill is testifying under oath today. Her testimony will continue to corroborate what we already know that everyone in Trumpworld was in on Trump’s attempt to bribe/extort Ukraine into announcing an investigation of Bidens by withholding military aid that they desperately needed.

Expect Trump to attack her because she’s bringing the fire.

Trump wanted the investigation to be announced because it would hurt Biden. He didn’t care if the investigation went anywhere. The announcement would be sufficient. Trump didn’t give a shit about corruption, except where he could profit from it.

Now we also learn that Lev Parnas was involved in setting up a meeting between Nunes and Ukrainian officials.

re: #202 DangerMan (misuser of the sarc tag)

I’m sure there’s ongoing debate at FNC up in the exec boardroom about how to spin this. I mean, sure, Hannity has been reduced to doing a Kevin Bacon “All is well!” impression, but it’s pretty obvious to anyone that he’s living in his own alternate reality.

re: #181 Yeah Sure WhatEVs

FB is fucking with democracy world wide. Zuck is no different than Murdoch.

This is where the current crop of Dem candidates is missing the mark - they should be running on protecting the individual privacy of net users by creating a US version of the EU’s GDPR, but with more teeth.

I temporarily signed up on Facebook, and it was eye-opening as the reality of shadow profiles was staring me in the face once I got on. I quickly closed my account and refuse to use it.

Decades ago on a 1970s “60 Minutes” it was the Automated Clearing House that was cited as the biggest threat to privacy - now it’s the FAANGs (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Microsoft) that are our biggest threat.

If you are going to do a General Strike, the FAANGs need to be the target of such an action.

Yeah it’s obvious that certain people don’t want to amplify Kamala and it sucks.

As a woman it infuriates me.

A woman at the top of the dem ticket is going to be hard, really hard, because women have it much harder than (1) white men, then (2) any other men. Fact of life.

Black men got the vote before women did.

It’s like we barely matter, have to work 100x harder, have to prove what where others (meaning men) are assumed. Where men are strong and assertive, women are bitches. We don’t fucking smile enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way a man hater and I think you all know that, but this is just a fact of life.

Christ, fucking Pakistan elected a woman decades ago. Yet here we are.

Smile gals…and for god’s sake be nice. Otherwise, you’re invisible (see Kamala and Amy both).

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Try to imagine a woman behaving as Kavenaugh did at his hearing. I dare you, just try.

And thus we see why Kamala ceased to get any purchase after that 2nd debate: they deigned only to define her by that debate alone and her perceived ‘failures’ and refused to update any expectations or give credit for anything else after that. Her status was forever set in stone.

They are CRAP
