In my short blip of time on this spinning speck of dust called earth there are a few things I know. One is that Tommy Emmanuel is the funnest knee popping guitar player in this galaxy. He is undoubtedly a master of the art but there is a nuance of unadulterated joy and glee in his playing that speaks to me. He will make you smile and your knee will bounce up and down. Every time.

Probably late to the party, but why am I not surprised. Barr’s DOiJ (Department of inJustice) released emails that proveTrump was involved with the Ukraine aid freeze AFTER the witness vote?! Beets the fuck outta me…

Oooooh, a veggie thread!
The 4 polled - I like all of them.
LOATHE lima beans.
Never had turnips, parsnips, or rutabagas until an adult. All are good.
Kohlrabi is fun to grow. Good raw as a dipping veggie. Good mashed. Good as a home fry sub for potatoes.
Radishes are good roasted and are another good lower carb sub for potatoes.
Potatoes ARE their own food group. But they make me too round. Round is not the shape I want to be.

Of course, anything in pork fat and fish sauce will taste amazing. But shaddup.

The cornbread looks tasty as does the ham, but the rest is exactly like the meals my grandmother made in Georgia when I was growing up. I just couldn’t tolerate the mushy beans and mushy greens, so I lived on her biscuits. The peaches from their own orchard with cream for breakfast were pretty good provided I could coat them in sugar.

I really don’t think they will actually go for Ivanka. I think Don Jr’s their man and here’s why. They’re never going to let a woman take over, and she’s perceived as being socially liberal. That’s never going to go over with the Trump cult. The Trump kin that will replace Orange Assohlis Rexus will be Junior Assholius Donaldus.

The biggest issue I take with “true left policies” arguments is…there’s no way to really prove it. As the fight over the passage of the ACA proved, voters love “true left policies” as an abstract, love the idea of “fixing” America’s problems with “progressive” programs/policies. But as soon as you start acknowledging the costs of such, they balk and/or whine that they thought it was all going to be “free” and can’t understand why taxes/fees have to be paid.

The South particularly the deep South always was practically a feudal apartheid society for many years. I don’t know how the hell African-Americans did it down there given that anything that so much as offended a white person could get you murdered in cold blood or forced to flee in the dead of night. It really was a mistake not doing more during Reconstruction.

Indeed. We’ve heard “THe people really want this guys!” so many times. Just look at how Kentuckians response to Kynsect and Obamacare for reference. If they think that Bernie’s health care reform plan won’t be used to scare people, they’re delusional. But they really want to act like the right wing rank and file are just closeted left wingers who have been waiting for a Bernie to awaken them.

I know that Harwood occasionally got hit by trolls before when he was at CNBC, but now that he’s at CNN he should expect to have the resentment army hit pretty much every non-sports-related tweet. But, yes, in this case he accurately pointed out the the GOP’s politics are fueled by white fear and resentment that is particularly acute in the states of the south.

Uhoh patient zero.

A UMass Boston student returning to school from Wuhan, China, is the first confirmed case of the potentially deadly novel coronavirus in Massachusetts.

The student, a male in his 20s, landed at Logan International Airport on Jan. 28 with a runny nose. He sought medical treatment on Jan. 29, public health officials said.

Dollars to donuts everyone on that plane has it.

I’m not really saying such policies don’t work, more that the implementation is not ever as simple as the sales pitch is. And no matter how far left the Overton Window has creeped since 2009, there is still going to be resistance the moment Bernie actually has to drop the curtain and show the public the actual bill he wants to make law.

They really think Bernie is FDR for a new era. But they miss a few things. One, that was easily the depressed economic term in our history so FDR had a lot of capital to try new things, two Bernie is no FDR when it comes to legislation and getting it passed, three the courts and Congress, Bernie wants to act like there’s not going ot be any court challenges to anything he does and he’s just so very wrong about that.

The simple sales pitch is where the GOP has the advantage. Take that advantage away. The Dems real advantage is in execution. We have the policy chops to make those things happen. First, though, we must get the votes.

The policies of the true left are so popular that they flipped zero districts from red to blue in Congress. I’ll give AOC, Omar, Tlaib, and the others credit for doing what they’ve done in theirs but a moderate left coalition is why Pelosi is Speaker today and why Trump is impeached. ACA could have been more popular much quicker had they not had the website fuckup on starting day.

That said…

If every single member of congress were WILDLY enthusiastic about M4A, and there was a collected list of sufficient qualified administrators eager to set it up, and mountains of money already on hand without having to change the tax code… it would still take 3-4 years to get it going. 2 million people who currently work for insurance companies would be thrown out of work. And every billing clerk or office administrator at every doctor’s office, clinic, hospital, pharmacy, nursing home, device manufacturer or physical therapy agency would need six months of retraining.

“How will you pay for it?” will, sad to say, be the least of our worries whenever Bernie’s final bill drops.

“And the House and Senate laughed, and started with Warren’s bill.”

re: #163 Teddy’s Person

So, I filed my taxes electronically today using one of the free programs on the IRS website. I finished inputting my info, and it told me I didn’t qualify for free filing (although I did). I was puzzled and looked in the upper left hand corner. There it was revealed that I owed over $1 million in taxes. When inputting my income, I forgot the decimal point. I wish I had the kind of money that resulted in a $1 million tax bill.

So if you move the decimal point “correctly”, you will owe only “over $1 dollar in taxes” rather than “$1 million”??

re: #180 Pawn of the Oppressor

There is something to be said for generational turnover. These kids are from a new breed of sadistic, wealthy, cruel little fucksticks who never grew up under the threat of nuclear weapons, who never had anyone in their family who sacrificed or grew up poor, and who frankly just don’t give a fuck about anyone else. They’re the devil’s children using the flesh-and-blood world as a sandbox for their nasty little pleasures.

So, the living embodiment of why we need a wealth tax.

So it’s like bro-dating for assholes?

They really don’t like hearing any criticism of Trump. This one FB group I’m a member of- it’s an Irish travel tips group. I as you all know lived in Galway City on Ireland’s west coast for a month in the summer of 2009 since I was taking classes there and I have a special bond with that area so I know a lot of stuff to do there. Anyhow, some Irish local pretty much called out Trump and said something that Americans should be careful travelling there because of what Trump’s done and man it stirred up a hornet’s nest. So much complaining about how I didn’t come here to hear “hatred” of my country and that “You’re not American, you can’t have an opinion on our President.” I felt so embarrassed. Some of it I know is the trolls/bots though.

Bill for what? His campaign vendors? Losing campaigns take a long time to pay their bills. Some never do.

I adored them, back in the day. Right up there with XTC and the Clash.
