The Ever-Evolving Lies of Donald Trump

MP4 Video

As you probably know, yesterday the crazed egomaniac playing at being president suggested to Dr. Deborah Birx that researchers should look into possibly injecting bleach into people’s lungs to fight the coronavirus. His “reasoning” probably went something like: if it kills the virus on a countertop, why wouldn’t it work inside the lungs the same way?

Let’s go to the video!

MP4 Video

This is why he’s the most tremendous stable genius in the history of history.

But this is also one of those rare occasions when he blathered out something so monumentally stupid that some way had to be found to walk it back or excuse it.

And as with so many of these dumbass right wing statements, when the stupid is undeniable, they run with the ever-popular sarcasm excuse.

UPDATE at 4/24/20 11:38:41 am by Charles Johnson

But wait, there’s more! In the same press event today, Trump proceeded to make it very clear he was not being sarcastic!

The perfect conclusion to this tale told by an idiot.

Trump’s staff are letting him see all the crap spewed by cranks from all over the world so long as they fit his know nothing worldview. He doesn’t listen to his own experts or attend the briefings based on actual facts and info.

Phrase I never want to hear again in politics. He was just being sarcastic to trigger his opposition. Just shut the fuck up. There’s a time and place for sarcasm but it’s not a press briefing during a pandemic and secondly Trump doesn’t know sarcasm from his asshole.

Next cooking project. Chili but with a Northern Mexico/California edge. One of those things that come together when some canned goods are getting dated if not used. Seared up “stew meat” beef that was in the freezer. Garlic, onion, chili powder, cumin powder all together in some bacon fat. That goes into the slow cooker with crushed tomato, a little red enchilada sauce, tomato sauce. Deglazed the iron pan with beer into the chili. Past that I added black and kidney beans, corn kernels. Going slow this is Sundays dinner. The slow cooker is surrounded by various half-empty cans so I can adjust over the next 24hours.

In the next grocery pickup, I hope to have the ingredients of Coq Au Vin. That will fill a whole day or more. Hands on. And enough food to give away or trade with friends.

Well we knew the little Nazi was getting his way…

Stephen Miller has long-term vision for Trump’s ‘temporary’ immigration order, according to private call with supportersTrump senior policy adviser Stephen Miller told White House supporters in a private call this week that the president’s new executive order curbing immigration will usher in the kind of broader long-term changes to American society he has advocated for years, even though the 60-day measures were publicly characterized as a “pause” during the coronavirus pandemic.

Miller, the chief architect of the president’s immigration agenda and one of his longest-serving and most trusted advisers, spoke to a group of Trump surrogates Thursday in an off-the-record call about the new executive order, which had been signed the night before. Though the White House had seen the move as something that would resonate with Trump’s political base, the administration instead was facing criticism from immigration hard-liners who were disappointed that the order does not apply to temporary foreigner workers despite Trump pitching it as helping to protect jobs for Americans.

Miller told the group that subsequent measures were under consideration that would restrict guest worker programs, but the “the most important thing is to turn off the faucet of new immigrant labor,” he said, according to a recording obtained by The Washington Post. Miller indicated that the strategy was part of a long-term vision and was not seen only as a stopgap.

Yeah, Little Nazi. Let more crops rot in the fields…

A thread on critical thinking, ten tweets.

Steak-umms social media person has come out in the past to point out their own social media account is a certain kind of propaganda (adverts), which builds an affinity toward their brand because they are being open and honest on their social media accounts.

They’ve even said you should critically think about why they put such information on a frozen meat product’s social media; it’s to get you to feel favourable towards their brand, even if you’re a vegetarian (they don’t mind if vegetarians retweet their information to others).

I don’t know who in their marketing department let their social media people go like this, but it sure is getting them a lot of buzz, even in the press.

TikTok user @rebabeba (or Rebecca) was captivated by one such Karen who revealed her extensive undyed roots to a cameraperson and insisted that Whitmer’s stay-at-home orders kept her from fixing her hair. Rebecca had a hard time believing somebody’s roots could go so haywire in just a few weeks, so she did some calculations to get to the bottom of it.

Michigan’s stay-at-home order began on March 24, or 28 days before Rebecca uploaded her video to Tiktok (April 21). She calculated the average monthly hair growth (half an inch) and the average length of a woman’s pointer finger (108 mm) for scale. Using these figures, Rebecca measured the approximate length of the woman’s roots and estimated that she hadn’t gotten her hair dyed since October. (more)

The Newsom administration has been very good. His team, including First Partner have been on point and message. I also credit the San Francisco mayor’s early action to cancel Warriors’ games as a key early factor waking me to the risks of Covid19.

Also should note for the record was that at nearly the same time I was on the phone with conservative Texas business colleague who does computer models. He was early into tracking Covid19. He had a strong early visceral reaction that was the second key factor to prompt my to shelter in place as much as possible

My wife and I paid close attention to what Gov. Newsom and others in sane states were saying about this. We decided early on that we would stay indoors.

As my town’s Public Information Officer (I wear a bunch of hats around here), I publicise official information from credible sources on the town trap line (public places to post information; here that’s the village park, the general store, the gun shop, the post office, and the village hall). The village board has excused me from attending meetings as they are concerned about my wife and my own risks.

A growing number of white-hat hackers are offering their skills to thwart cybercriminals attempting to exploit healthcare organizations’ increased reliance on networks during the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, the nonprofit COVID-19 CTI League counts more than 1,400 volunteers throughout 76 nations, who are applying their experience in information security, telecommunications, and law enforcement to defend hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. An initial progress report from the CTI League indicated that members have assisted law enforcement in eliminating almost 3,000 cybercriminal assets online and identified more than 2,000 cyber vulnerabilities at hospitals, healthcare groups, and supporting facilities. Chris Krebs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said the CTI League “has helped disseminate indicators of compromise to network defenders, improve vulnerability management in the nation’s medical infrastructure, and manage supply-chain risks in the medical sector.”

There is nothing single handed about this. Trump is the symptom, not the cause. About 35% of the American population are mentally ill (no surprise, it’s about the same everywhere). The problem is that usually authoritarian leaders harness authoritarian followers to get what they want, which is evil, but not necessarily stupid. The US authoritarian leader class has, for some unknown reason decided to let the crazies run the asylum.

Formaldehyde is classified as a residual inactivating ingredient. It’s used to kill viruses or inactivate toxins during the manufacturing process. There’s generally a residual amount left after processing, but less than what’s normally in the body naturally (it’s created in small amounts by metabolic processes).

He bet it all on hydroxychloroquine, that was going to be his “cure” that would not only get people back to work, but would get him accolades for finding the “silver bullet” that his experts told him didn’t exist. Why wait a year or more for a vaccine when all people needed were a few pills?

Now he’s fighting against the reality, trying to find something new to latch onto, because the alternative is the dawning realization that he’s totally fucked his reelection chances. Because he was sure there was a quick “cure” out there, he treated mitigation efforts as an attack on his authority. And now those chickens are coming home to roost.

I’ve worked at several architectural offices that did a lot of work for hospitals. They would sit on an invoice for as long as possible and then invent an issue and have us resubmit the invoice. One of the offices wound up folding because the cash flow issues became so severe. They screw everybody.

One of the firms I worked for did some residential architecture for health care administrators. They were the biggest asshole clients, and if their wife was at the meeting, they’d wind up berating her in front of all of the architects. We’d leave the office to go get coffee.

Well, depends how you think of a disinfectant. Activated formaldehyde solutions are bacteriocidal and virucidal, and it is the active agent in at least one commonly prescribed antibacterial medication (methenamine). But again, the whole argument is in bad faith. You can’t inject virucidal medications into people to sterilise things the way you use surface disinfectants. It’s quite obvious that his deranged ramble was not some sort of insight into the possibility of using common virucidal cleaners in vivo. Software doesn’t rot.

Well, yes it does. (I’ve just spent a whole week fixing software rot).

Obviously programs dont spontaneously stop working because of age.

But no piece of software works in a vacuum.. Programs talk to programs.

If programs a,b, and c talk to programs p, q and r and “q” gets updated in some incompatible way then a, b and c need updating. But it turns out that “c” is rarely used, so the update is put off. Until, at some urgent point we discover “c” is needed but it doesn’t work.

Software rot is the biggest problem in the real world. Yes, the name is misleading, software rot is actually poor change control.

One country, one system: The week that China shredded its promise on Hong Kong, WaPo. While our backs were turned. Or thinking about covid-19, or bleach.

Trump administration considers leveraging emergency coronavirus loan to force Postal Service changes, WaPo

Guess what: Mnuchin wants to take oversight over USPS from Congress. In exchange for money.

Amazing.

I think the Trump Campaign should lead by example and pay retail postage for all their mailers and swag.

It’s part of the euro-weenie GSM specification — emergency services (alerts, 911 calls &c) must work, even if you have no sim, or don’t know the unlock code.

I have a brand new GSM phone, and set it to French (I’ve done that for years.) The unlock screen has “URGENCES” down at the bottom. Now I know.

Judd Legum claims some scalps: UPDATE: Ruth’s Chris returns $20 million

On Thursday morning, facing increasing public backlash about the administration of the program, the Treasury Department published new guidance about the Paycheck Protection Program. Specifically, the Treasury Department said that it is “unlikely” that any public company “with substantial market value and access to capital markets” qualifies for the loans. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said there would be “severe consequences” for companies that did not return the money by May 7.

“I Take That as a Threat”: Big Pharma Is Meddling in the Race for a COVID-19 Treatment
A Yale researcher poised to start a crucial clinical trial received an ominous email from a pharmaceutical company. “There is undoubtedly a financial motivation,” he said—and there could be millions on the line.
by Diana Falzone, Vanity Fair

In New Haven, meanwhile, Dr. Joseph Vinetz, an infectious disease doctor at Yale School of Medicine, is seeking to launch a clinical study of the drug camostat mesylate, a generic medication approved in Japan to treat chronic pancreatitis that he hopes can be approved and marketed to treat COVID-19. If the trial succeeds, he said, this could be “a total game changer.” But the process is proving fraught. Within hours of registering his trial on a National Institutes of Health website on April 20, he received an email from a large U.S. pharmaceutical company. “They are trying to take my project and engulf it for their proprietary [financial] gain,” Vinetz told me. “I take that email as a threat.”

You’ll get your flying car first.

Wasn’t Michelle the one requesting, nay demanding, a flying car?

I had a quick visit to see my doctor today (follow-up to a procedure last month) and we talked about the bleach thing. I felt better for the commiseration.

My doctor’s office is also starting to offer antibody tests (through Quest/LabCorp). I’m probably not going to try for it anytime soon but I won’t lie, it would be nice to know one way or another. There’s a bunch of reasons why it’s very plausible that I could have been asymptomatic if I were exposed. (I don’t really have a history of illness that makes me think that I have had even a very mild case of it.)

As someone was saying in an earlier thread, people are doing a lot more cleaning, a d exposing themselves that way.

He has some vague sense that saying you were being sarcastic gives you a pass on being questioned. But then he went right back to the same just asking questions about an idiotic “solution.”

Aaahhh, wishing back to the days when we were just going to buy Greenland.
