Better. But still short of breath. My brain is still a little foggy. I walked a mile or so today. I think I’m not going to be “normal” for awhile, but I’m alive and will continue to try and get more exercise and take care of myself.

re: #348 A Mom Anon
I gotta say lizards, I am pretty despondent right now. I see just insane amounts of crazyevilstupidmean around me and I honestly do not know how to cope. Maybe I’m just a snowflake, but come ON. It’s not just COVID-19 that’s a virus that’s gonna kill us, the just mind
boggling hate is going to take even more of us. I mean, shooting people because of being asked to wear a mask? Hitting and kicking and screaming at others for wanting to stay safe?We have a deep, deep issue here that goes far beyond this virus. And I wonder if THAT’S the thing(s) that will eventually be our complete undoing.
I’m trying to remain optimistic, but I am worn down from this. And just sad. Very deeply sad.
[[[ virtual hugs ]]]
Mind-boggling hate tends to turn on itself. Conservatives have always been violent in this country; the only difference now is we have an Internet which makes it possible to get hate-overloaded with a constant barrage of the ugly side of society. Most people aren’t like that; good news doesn’t sell newspapers as well.
Then there’s just the regular old random violence that’s always been around, but with the advent of instant communications and cell phone cameras seems ubiquitous.
Don’t let the bastards get you down. Take a break if you need to. Remember, what scares away the assmunches who think a mask is just like being enslaved picking cotton are also scared of a simple cough. (Cough liberally if needed.)

COVID-19 is now being considered a “biological agent” in the United States, meaning that those who deliberately cough on policemen or merchandise to spread infection can be charged with terrorism. Late last month, Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen sent US attorneys and federal law enforcement agencies a memo asking the justice department to consider prosecuting certain “purposeful exposure or infection of others with COVID-19” under federal terrorism-related statutes. Two people in the US have been charged with terrorism offences after claiming they were intentionally trying to spread COVID-19.

Me, either. I think it was second grade.
Anyway, I went shopping for the first time in two weeks (yay, me) and more people are wearing masks, but an awful lot of white folks were either not or wearing them down over just the mouth. WTF! Two women were trying out all of the doggie toys, checking the squeakers, and playing with them, masks down, and that meant I couldn’t get to the canned cat food that was right behind them in a narrow aisle. Finally gave up and backed out of the aisle, went to get bird seed, and there was an employee, mask down, just playing at stocking. Lining up little boxes just so, tweaking things, on and on, obviously to keep from having to actually work. I waited for a number of minutes and he hadn’t done squat, but did finally leave. I told him I would appreciate him wearing his mask correctly. Other than that, it wasn’t bad, but two weeks worth of pet supplies were heavy and exhausting. I’m beat!

I’ve been following the Butte Co. coronavirus reports after the Mothers’ Day church service attended by someone who was infected. It appears to me the results are showing up. There were 2 new cases the day after the church service, one of whom attended that service on May 10. To that point there had been 18 cases in the county.
Two cases added on May 11: 20.
Two more May 14: 22
Two more May 18: 24
Two more May 19: 26
None to that point were connected to the church.
Four more today: 30
At least one was connected to the church service.
The next few days should be interesting.
On the other hand, why aren’t there a bunch of cases in Georgia? They don’t seem to be actively suppressing their data, but they’ve been more or less opening up for 2 or 3 weeks. Are people just staying home or what?

Georgia and Florida are both fudging their numbers. FL fired their numbers person. GA has just been playing with their numbers from what I read.
re: #54 calochortus
I’m in metro Atlanta and haven’t been going out a lot since the beginning of March. When I do go out, I see more and more people without masks and pretending like nothing is wrong since our infected doorknob of a governor opened almost everything up. I saw two moms with very little ones at Home Depot over the weekend, no masks, to buy paint in one case and a clay flower pot for the other. Come on.
We also have an issue here in GA with data being manipulated, graphs manipulated by moving dates around to show declining rates of infections. You have to look really close to see the dates at the bottom of the chart are out of order. This has happened “accidentally” three times. So far. I hope that people who can do this math and access the numbers can compare overall death rates in the state in the recent past and compare that to what’s happening now to get at least a ballpark estimate of what the real numbers are. Kemp needs to be held to account, but I don’t know what punishment even fits how fucking carelessly evil this whole mess is.
I was honestly afraid the woman who charged me and my dog yesterday was going to get in my face and cough. She kept saying, “You’re a nasty woman.” You’re a nasty woman”. And kept coming closer and closer.
I’m guessing she’s a “Christian” because she freaked out on me 1. Calling out her shit for breaking the law, and 2. Swearing.
If I hadn’t been so freaked out, I would have had video and put it on twitter. Whenever I walk with doggo now, dude is going to follow me in the car. We need a camera attached to the car.
It is ILLEGAL for Trump’s acting IG to have started working at the State Dept this week. The law FORBIDS removal of an IG during the 30-day notice period. If even FOUR Senate Republicans cared about laws, they would stop this by blocking Trump’s nominees.https://t.co/f03T9MRs6u

Republican Executives Keep Making ‘Mistakes’ That Happen to Downplay the Pandemic
In Georgia, either the numbers are being cooked, or they’ve accidentally fallen into the stew pot. Charlie Pierce
From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Where does Sunday take place twice a week? And May 2 come before April 26? The state of Georgia, as it provides up-to-date data on the COVID-19 pandemic. In the latest bungling of tracking data for the novel coronavirus, a recently posted bar chart on the Georgia Department of Public Health’s website appeared to show good news: new confirmed cases in the counties with the most infections had dropped every single day for the past two weeks. In fact, there was no clear downward trend. The data is still preliminary, and cases have held steady or dropped slightly in the past two weeks. Experts agree that cases in those five counties were flat when Georgia began to reopen late last month.
This unforced error — at least the third in as many weeks — is confounding observers who have noted sloppiness in case counts, death counts and other measures that are fundamental to tracking a disease outbreak. Georgians check the data daily to decide whether it’s safe to reopen their businesses or send their children to daycare. Policymakers use it for decisions affecting the health of more than 10 million Georgians. “It’s just cuckoo,” said state Rep. Scott Holcomb, D-Atlanta, who sent the letter outlining his concerns to the governor’s office on Monday. The bar chart that stirred the latest controversy was revised shortly afterwards. “I don’t know how anyone can defend this graph as not being misleading. I really don’t.”

I suppose we’ll find out eventually. I’m having a hard time seeing significant trends in the statistics I look at. Probably because it’s hard to tell what is going on from a broad overview. That’s one reason I’m following Butte County. It’s small, there’s a specific event, and I trust CA stats.
