I’m just copying and pasting this comment from another website. I did not write it, but it encapsulates how I feel:

The Lincoln Project ads are excellent, and it should give Democrats pause. Why?

Because THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRATS should have been doing years ago. This always how Republicans have made ads, and the Democrats never hit back nearly as hard.

It is quite ironic that it took Republicans to create the ads FOR DEMOCRATS to defeat a Republican!

So, learn the technique, learn the quick turnaround time, and learn how to raise the money to place these types of ads on targeted social media and TV.

In the meantime, let’s get Bloomberg’s money, and Steyer’s money, and blanket the airwaves and digital spaces with these incredibly powerful ads.

This is where I got it:

It is truly stunning to see what a nation of whiny, entitled babies we have become.

Grampa had to live in a shack with his buddy during a Wisconsin winter in the Great Depression. A sack of potatoes. 8 bullets for the deer rifle. That was it.

How have we devolved this far?

My S.O. has a real sweet pup that is terrified of fireworks. And even though the annual show has been cancelled here in Steamboat, the local stand is open and has been selling them all week. Lots of Texans and other tourists have been smuggling them across the state line and detonating them all week throughout town. Super annoying. Thankfully I live up the hill a few miles and all the neighbors appreciate peace and quiet, so we plan on bratwurst and a little fire in my chimnea to celebrate Independence Day.

Here’s Deja, such a sweet girl

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area on this 4th of July. In past years, I’d spend the day visiting family who comes in from other parts of the country, I’d go blueberry picking and visit the Delaware River Gap, or I’d head over to Paterson Great Falls NHP.

This year? Nope. None of it. We’re home. Not going anywhere. No parades. Nothing.

Ridgewood NJ is known for having an annual parade, where families line up chairs days ahead of the parade to reserve their spots. No parade. Nothing.

No official fireworks shows either - because it isn’t safe to do so.

But yet we have the treasonweasel and his cabal of cronies flying off to South Dakota to give a slurred speech about how he’s going to protect Confederate statues and monuments to those people who also owned slaves and did heinous things.

He did that at the foot of Mount Rushmore, which was expropriated from Native Americans after Americans found gold in the Black Hills. They lost their land, and many lost their lives at Wounded Knee - where American troops massacred more than 300 men, women, and children. The region belongs to Native Americans. The mountain itself was held sacred to Native Americans, but American entrepreneurs decided to turn it into a roadside attraction instead and hired Borglum to blast the visage of former presidents into the granite.

It’s indeed an impressive bit of engineering and monumental work, but it was done on land not belonging to those who did it.

So Trump’s latest EO is about building a statuary park honoring a bunch of people, as if that means anything. Adding Scalia to that list is a bunch of red meat to his know nothing base.

What BLM and the protests continue to show is that Americans are starting to take a hard look at all aspects of society, and that includes who we honor and respect - and whether that honor and respect is fully warranted.

That’s why watching Hamilton is so interesting to me. Watched it last night and I did see it on Broadway. It’s complex. It raises complex issues. It tangentially touches on everything from slavery and states rights to work left undone and how immigrants were treated like second class citizens even back at the founding of the nation.

Hamilton wasn’t without his own faults - both his womanizing - and he didn’t challenge slave owners like Washington nearly enough. So, while the founders thought of equal rights, it was more of a slogan for privileged white folks than something to extend to all people throughout the country.

It’s that legacy that we still deal with on a daily basis.

You didn’t need HAMILTON to have known the Founding Fathers were anything BUT united. Contentious, passionate, prone to arguments and divided along all sorts of lines of class, slavery and economics.

Frank Luntz is a fucking lunatic.

Auschwitz wasn’t erected by the Allies after the war. It was built by the fucking Nazis as a death camp. We captured it before the Nazis could destroy it to hide the evidence of their genocidal efforts. We preserve it because it’s part of history.

We don’t erect new statues of goddamned Nazis to remind us of what the fucking Nazis did.

But secessionists, segregationists, and Confederate treasonweasels got statues erected to them decades after the South lost the war to preserve their right to own slaves. This was done to revise history - to rewrite it and give legitimacy to their cause to own slaves, all while reminding persons of color of their second class status.

We don’t erect statues to the losers of a war they started. We shouldn’t. They were erected with bad intentions.

But Luntz thinks that the two are equivalent. That’s the worst hot take of the day… so far.

The bolded is actually a good example of how even with memorials and statues people can have an incomplete picture of history. Auschwitz actually started life as a Polish Army barracks, originally used after capture by the Reich as a holding facility for “political prisoners” (i.e. Polish politicians and military leaders). After Operation Barbarossa began, it then started a new life as a POW camp for captured Soviet commissars and officers. It wasn’t until late in the war that it became finally became a labor camp for Polish Jews, then a death camp with the construction of what became known as “Auschwitz II” adjacent to the original facilities. But because that’s the state that Allied soldiers found the camp in, it became accepted that it was always intended as a death camp.

Many towns in CO finally putting their foot down on the mask requirements since so many tourists and a few diehard locals aren’t playing nice. I’m grateful for it. But man, the comments in the paper, so many ppl crying about “loosing” their freedoms. Town enacted a stage 1 fire ban and people are even complaining about eroding freedoms with that, too . Uh, we do fire bans every year almost. SMDH.

I’m thinking of making stickers that say ‘True Pro Lifers Wear Masks!’

it may be that Republicans are better at making attack ads

the Lincoln Project folks have greater latitude because they are Republicans.

…the Russia-themed anti-Trump ad yesterday. If that had come from the Biden campaign, it would have come off as cheesy and over the top.

But coming from Republicans, particularly Republicans who have established a reputation for producing edgy ads, it came off as clever and well-executed

Here in VA, while the folks in Richmond keep trying to assert that the state is on the downturn because cases overall have been in decline, Hampton Roads reported over 200 cases today alone. That accounts for 1/4 of all the new cases in the state for today, continuing the trend of being the state’s new hot spot that started (surprise, surprise) in the wake of Memorial Day.

But there’s money to be made, so other than the cancellation of fireworks displays that were announced weeks ago, there’s no real restriction on what is likely to be another superspreader event at the beachfront.

I was a child in 1968 (a Republican child), but even in hindsight…

1968 Nixon was EPA, OSHA, Title IX, Title X
1968 Democrats was Richard J Daley and George Wallace.

I won’t apologize that it took me until Reagan to start backing away from the R’s.

George Wallace ran on the American Independent ticket in 1968.

Nixon was running an illegal war in Cambodia which got my father killed. He was an anti-Semite. He ran with the overtly racist Southern Strategy to win the election. The GOP was already the racist party then. Reagan ran in that primary against Nixon. Strom Thurmond switched parties in 1964 to the Republicans and supported Nixon in the 1968 election.

He imposed wage and price controls which made both inequity and poverty worse in the interest of controlling inflation for banks and big businesses.

That election happened when I was eight years old, and I already knew they were the racist party then.

They’re never going to forget, and they’re never going to trust us again.

Americans have an irrational quasi-religious worship of their 18th century Constitution and an obsession to continue with what a small self-selected group of well-off property owners ten generations ago thought was a good idea regarding government and legislature. Thanks to that Slaveholders Wishlist of a Constitution you have an Executive with the powers of an absolute monarch who can and often does change everything in regards to foreign policy every four or eight years. Treaties negotiated over decades get unilaterally abrogated at the stroke of a pen, trade wars are initiated to look tough to the voters, pointless military adventures and judicial appointments not to the benefit of the courts but to pay off internal political debts.

Why the everlasting fuck would we trust the US? Oh, and happy Independence Day.

Group of demonstrators enter Stone Mountain Park

The north and west gates of the park were closed after the group entered, park police said.

A group of demonstrators marched into Stone Mountain Park on Saturday afternoon, according to park authorities.

The group was comprised of about 75-to-100 persons, all dressed in black, according to John Bankhead with the Stone Mountain Park Police.

Shortly after 2 p.m., Bankhead said the group had entered the park at the West Gate and was headed toward the Lawn Area of the park, where the large Confederate carving of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on the north face of the mountain can be viewed.

Bummer.
Nice fascist stage. And people drove hundreds of miles to scream “GO HOME” to Native Americans whose very land was under them.
And the speech itself was a notch above the Tea Bag “water the tree of liberty” threat.
Gassing native Americans as a fascist president stands on over 125,000 dead Americans, never mentioning them, and defends Confederate statues as “founders” as he allowed Russians to buy dead American service personnel…..

re: #46 Nojay UK

Mostly true… but the pot is speaking to the kettle.

Got a bit PO’d earlier. Was out and wearing my cav stetson and some older gent was making comments about CNN=Communist News Network and various racist crap. Then he sees me & my hat and is all cheerfully asking if I was into re-enactment and the group up the road putting something on.

I was all “No, I don’t do re-enactment. I have nothing to do with anything that helps glorify the treasonous scum that rebelled against the US.” Then I walked away.

Now I don’t have any real problem with actual historical groups and the like, but I know damned well I was going to get a pile of, at best, both siderist crap. Nope. Headed that off at the pass like I was still riding C/1/13th.

I’d have shown him the IWW pin on it but he wouldn’t have understood it.

The Dems need to hang Trump around the neck of the GOP like a millstone, from Biden all the way down to dog catcher - each and every one of them chose Trump over their country. The result is 130,000 dead and counting, a crash economy, a reputation of a laughingstock worldwide, and national security possibly compromised. Take them all out back and beat them to within an inch of their lives, so that not even remaining Koch Brothers can prop them up.

Biden probably doesn’t have it in him to do that.

We are awash in flatware and silverware. My wife inherited both her Grandmother’s and her Mother’s sterling and stainless. They both had the same pattern of stainless, and her Grandmother must have gotten the special ‘having people over for coffee’ set because we have a gazillion teaspoons, over and above the dozen or more place settings.

The sterling, I spent a little time this winter cataloging and bought a few pieces to make both up to the original number of place settings. Also polished them all by hand. And we haven’t used them since!

And if you shift around too much to the right, I don’t know if that rock is going to be suitable to blast a new face into it. The reason Teddy is so far in the back is because the rock face was unsuitable and they had to keep blasting until they found some rock which would hold the shape.

And as I mentioned, there’s no way the weathered rock on the right could hold that shape. If the mountain can take a face at all to the right of Lincoln, it’s almost going to be pointing directly away, in the same direction as Teddy or Jefferson.

Another incredible colorized pic from the pre-Dreadnought era. This is the USS Kearsarge, the only US battleship not named for a state, in Portsmouth England 1903. That’s HMS Victory in the right background. Kearsarge was later converted to a crane ship, saw much service in World War II in that role, and lasted until 1956 (60 years of service). Victory, of course, is still there.

We watched last night. It’s very good, although I have 2 minor complaints.
The first is just me, but there was far too much going on. I get rather easily overwhelmed by too much sensory input and there’s just too much frenetic motion, especially while one is trying to pay attention to fast paced audio as well.
My other thought is that it’s really hard to pack the content of Chernow’s 800 pages (IIRC) of text into 3 hours of music and get everything in.

Still, I recommend it.

re: #282 Yeah Sure WhatEVs

Holy shit. This whole video. Yikes.

[Embedded content]

This is what I had to say about this when a shorter version was posted:

re: #310 A hollow Gandalfian voice says, VOTE, you fools!

This posting (original twitter poster, not LGF people) illuminates all the problems I have with “Karen,” and the misogyny hiding in it. We’ve all seen and laughed at the meltdowns over mask wearing (me too, and I have no problem with highlighting them). But when we create the type and start throwing every woman we deem to have misbehaved into it, we end up with something very different.

What does this clip have to do with covid-19 bad behavior? Is there something about wearing a mask? Has an employee prevented her from going in because she’s not wearing one? We don’t know — all that clip shows is woman behaving badly while some (unseen) men laugh at her. (If you follow the link, you’ll see what it was clipped from — a two minute sequence of her throwing herself at that door, which might be to a retail establishment, while people laugh at her. No clue how we got there. It’s clearly cut from an even longer sequence of events, and it’s not funny at all. Except, maybe, to people who are amused by the antics of the homeless mentally ill who decorate our streets these days.)

Yet whoever edited and posted it originally thought it was fine to dismiss her as a “Karen,” edit it to a single moment and post it for our amusement. I predict we will never see an equivalent “Ken” category for the men who act out about their entitlements in their own special ways. Because we don’t just dismiss them.

And while I’m on this soapbox (it’s heavy and I don’t want to drag it out again), might we spare a little understanding for all the shutdown protesters? I know I said the milk of human kindness had curdled in my veins, but I seem to have a bit left somewhere. We know there are at least 35 million people out of work, and there’s probably another large group of people who are hanging by a thread and know it. Is it any wonder that some of them grasp at straws, like “covid hoax” and hate the visible symbol of what hit them, the mask? We lizards are mostly educated at least enough to be able to recognize nonsense, but members of the group that’s hardest hit by the economic crash are likely not to be, so they’re susceptible to faux noise brainwashing and 8-chan conspiracies — anything that gives them a sense that someone is controlling this and can fix it. I’m not suggesting any sort of compromise — they’re still wrong, and wrong-headed — but maybe we could dial down the contempt.

The local Boogaloo vs. AntiFa firefight has finally calmed down, apparently because of a dearth of ammunition. Certainly was loud, earlier. There is still some residual gunfire, but it’s in far South Austin, Alex Jones country, so what are you going to do?

They need to hire a bouncer (or reassign one of the huskier teenagers). Wearamaskassol is the best preventative we have, and without an explicit assignment, a teenager won’t find it easy to stand up to an adult.

Folks on Twitter thinking West is going to be the Jill Stein of 2020 and I gotta say that’s giving him way too much credit. This isn’t 2016, Trump isn’t a mystery as to how he’d run things if reelected, and Stein’s relationship with Trump went as far as her fan club suggesting he wouldn’t be “that bad” if he beat Hillary.

But all of this is pure speculation, the egotistical fuck hasn’t even taken the time to file the paperwork and start gathering signatures to get on ballots. Before we talk about how he’d help/hurt the race, let’s see if he’s actually gonna be in it.

The official denial is out:

Elon Musk denies Jeffrey Epstein toured SpaceX facilities (Business Insider)

He says the photograph of Ghislaine Maxwell and him together at a party was her inserting herself into a picture of him without his knowledge, and the better question would be to ask Vanity Fair, which threw the party.

BI previously reported the tour of SpaceX was arranged by Kimbal Musk (his brother) but it was unclear whether either Musk was at the site when Epstein’s entourage was there. They also reported in January that Epstein set up Kimbal Musk with a girlfriend (an adult who had been Epstein’s girlfriend before Maxwell).

Jeffrey Epstein set Elon Musk’s brother up with a girlfriend in effort to get close to the Tesla founder, sources say (January 13, 2020) .

Last year, he denied introducing Epstein to Mark Zuckerberg, after Vanity Fair reported on that.:

“It’s Going to Be Staggering, the Amount of Names”: As the Jeffrey Epstein Case Grows More Grotesque, Manhattan and DC Brace for Impact (Vanity Fair, July 17, 2019).

Zuckerberg said he met Epstein in passing at a dinner not hosted by Epstein and never spoke to him again.

Fact-checkers at both CNN and Snopes confirm the video clip of Trump’s Coronapalooza where it appears he said that Desert Storm happened in Vietnam is false. He stumbled in that part of his speech, but he did not say that. The video was deceptively edited. It should be called out and not shared.

Black Lives Matter Versus Catholics?

We’ll go into detail about what transpired in St. Louis [on June 27 at Ant Hill], but let’s address the general claim right at the top. These videos don’t show “Black Lives Matter” activists beating up “Catholics” who were just praying at the feet of a statue of King Louis IX. Claims using this language omit some key details.

The group described as “Catholics,” for instance, was partly comprised of individuals who align themselves with hate groups (such as the Proud Boys) and other white nationalist ideologies. Also, this prayer event was organized by the proprietor of a far-right conspiracy website. While there were certainly Catholics who attended this event in good faith, describing this entire group only as “Catholics” omits some very important and relevant details about who exactly was involved in these altercations.

Furthermore, while the politics of the people who organized the counter-protest may align (at least in part) with the Black Lives Matter movement, and while there were Black Lives Matter activists present at this event, this was not an official BLM protest. This counter-protest was organized by Muslim and Jewish activists who wanted the statue taken down in part because of King Louis IX’s persecution of Jews in the middle ages.

Stop snickering, cornhole is a serious sport in Nebraska, even if the Firefox dictionary doesn’t recognise the word and underscores it as an error.

Cornhole (Goes to Wikipedia, board layout, equipment [cornbags which weigh 1 lb. each], scoring, rules)

ESPN has been covering professional cornhole tournaments (amongst other things, social distancing is possible), in which the woman described in the article above appears.

She wanted to be an athlete in other sports, but never could figure out why she always came in last in competitions. She was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder which reduces oxygen flow.

She now competes in five-figure prize money cornhole tournaments.

And the bulk of Trump’s portfolio is real estate, which is one of the most cutthroat and money-grubbing industries out there. And a privately-owned one at that, which means he can act as a dictator as compared to publicly-traded companies that could have long ago ran his ass out on a rail for driving the whole mess so far into debt that he’s asking some rather shady people to float him loans.

Trying again at the Omaha World-Herald with a letter, this time responding to a bigot Catholic who’s letter was published July 4.

Mr. Charlie Aliano asserts that as a practicing Catholic, he is appalled by the recent Supreme Court decision prohibiting discrimination against LGBT people in business and government. No one on the Supreme Court struck down the First Amendment’s provision of Free Exercise in any church. That would include churches which accept LGBT persons in their services.

Fortunately our nation is not run on the Catechism of the Catholic Church or any particular person’s interpretation of the Bible. It is a secular state which allows free exercise for all faiths and none.

The argument “God said” has been used in our country to deny rights to women, to enforce slavery, to enforce Jim Crow, to enforce miscegenation laws, and to enforce anti-Catholic laws.

The Constitution, which is the law of our land and not the Bible, explicitly prohibits the government from interfering in the affairs of any church, so they are as free to be as restrictive and non-welcoming as they wish. No Catholic Church is going to be forced to distribute the Eucharist to any person it deems unworthy.

By law your church may enforce its Catechism on its members as it wishes. It may not enforce it on anyone outside the Catholic Church, just as the Lutheran Church may not enforce its doctrines on Catholics.

Five of the Supreme Court Justices are Catholic; fortunately they ruled for the rights of all Americans, not their own sect. They are appointed to uphold secular laws, not church laws.

Responding to No to gay marriage (Omaha World-Herald “Public Pulse,” last letter on the page).

One genetic variant among humans has been shown to be associated with more severe cases of Covid-19, and the troublesome allele was inherited from Neanderthals.

The allele is linked to others nearby, as that portion of chromosome 3 appears to travel together and not get cut up via crossovers during meiosis. So there are a bunch of other alleles one can use to diagnose if you have the troublesome allele, and that is useful because consumer DNA testing companies test at some of these other alleles.

I have one copy of the bad allele, based on my results from 23andMe. One copy of the bad allele increases the risk factor of a serious case by 1.7x, I believe, and having two copies (remember, we all have two chromosome 3) by even more so raises the risk of a severe case.

One can find a list of alleles to check in the back of the scientific paper which discusses this. Look for the alleles with linkage disequilibrium = 1 for the alleles which are linked to the troublesome one:

The idea “government should be run like a business” was articulated explicitly during the Reagan era, but has existed throughout the history of the Republic amongst conservatives.

The basic idea is “debt is bad.”

Unlike a business, the government renders services which do not easily fit into a business model of “profit first,” though the libertarian streak in the model of “government should be run like a business” is shot through with the idea. As such, Nixon moved to privatise the Post Office (it doesn’t generate a profit in the usual sense), Reagan moved regulatory agencies to fund themselves through fees and fines rather than government appropriations, &c.

No essential public need can be provided by capitalist models of governance. A fire department cannot provide for all if it’s working as a business. A jail run like a business tends to cut corners on the welfare of prisoners who are legally wards of the State.

Essentially the libertarian conservative model of “run government like a business” fits right in with the Reagan-era and Ayn Rand philosophies of “greed is good.”

Thus during the Great Depression, Hoover’s model of social spending (which by its nature doesn’t generate a profit on a fiscal year balance sheet) failed spectacularly for society. Never-ending attacks on social programmes since the New Deal also reflect the mindset of “no profit on this fiscal year’s balance sheets.”

A variant model is presented as “government should be run like a household budget.” This assumes households always have positive or neutral budgets. While I am extremely fortunate that my wife and I have no debt whatsoever and our income from all sources exceeds our expenditures, that is not the case for many households.

Businesses large and small require access to credit (debt) to expand or diversify their products or services, or to compete in new markets. The government has taxes and debt for that. One of the worst economic depressions came right after Andrew Jackson’s administration successfully reduced government debt to nothing.

Alleged supporters of capitalism (that is, Republican voters) don’t seem to understand the basic principles of business and debt and need socialists to explain their own economic ideology to them.

I understand that driver was arrested and in custody. They’ll probably be charged with murder. At the bare minimum, vehicular homicide.

Welcome to The Imbleachment (dangerman)  Jul 5, 2020 • 5:57:11am

finished my run. about an hour
86th day in a row

which breaks my personal best of 85 days in a row back in 2014.
i stopped tracking streaks after that.
it’s not really a meaningful measure of anything because so much can cause you to miss a day - travel, illness, injury, scheduling whatever

i also stopped keeping a log book altogether for a couple of years.
then i had to take that pause last october-december from a foot injury

when i started recovery, i started a new log to track my progress from zero.
so i didnt intend a long streak. it just happened. and easily.

131 of the last 135 days
142 of the last 158 because in the beginning i was only allowed to run every other day for the first two weeks.

No response at all from kluxers and bug-boys to the NFAC group’s presence at Stone Mountain. Even I am surprised at how thoroughly they have folded up, and I have always thought they were cowards and blowhards who would disappear at the first serious pushback. If anything should get a rise out of them, though, it is Stone Mountain. The place is holy ground to them, the literal birthplace of the modern Kukluxklan and the greatest of all Confederate shrines. I still expect them to commit mass violence when they have a soft target and overwhelming numbers, but not otherwise.

Lightning strikes, takes 21 more lives in Bihar, CM asks people to stay indoors

Lightning strikes continue to take lives in Bihar with twenty-one more deaths and over 40 injuries reported in the state amid heavy rain and thunderstorms on Saturday, according to the state disaster management authority. However, the chief minister’s office has put the number of casualties at 20. Fifteen people were killed in lightning strikes in different districts of the state on Friday. The injured are undergoing treatment in local hospitals. Most of the fresh casualties are farmers and labourers who were working in the fields.

The RW sites seem to be linking them to the Black Yahwist world. SPLC has been tracking the Yahwists, but never put anything up on NFAC. Either it’s a recent renaming, or they kept a really low profiole while getting it together. JJ McNab might have something.

The Yahwists would make sense, since they could come up with the numbers and the level of organization we’re seeing here. A group like this wouldn’t just pop up out of nowhere. I’ve seen other RWNJs going to their default bogeymen, BLM, Antifa, and Soros, which means they don’t have a clue

My first read of that was that this was the idiots claiming that we’re close to or at herd immunity already, but a closer parsing shows the top study cites overall 2% (staff) and 4% (resident) positive rates. Use of the term “denialist” seems strange - are there actual people denying that meaningful - perhaps even majority - percentages of cases are asymptomatic?

My sister’s family (including her two grown kids and their families) were visiting The Ancestral Home, in one of the ‘White Suburbs’ of Gettysburg, the little town where I grew up and where another sister still owns The Ancestral Home. My niece has two sons she adopted from Ethiopia, now teenagers, one of whom was with her. They went to the Battlefield, as our family often does, because it’s scenic and historical, and found it full of armed white supremacists flying Confederate flags. She said,

“As his mother, I didn’t feel freedom. I wasn’t proud to be an American. I wasn’t proud of the way the man in the big truck with the flags bearing our leaders name, attempted to hit my son and I when he saw us.”

I can sit here, 3000 miles away and poke fun at the goobers with their guns and Confederate flags, flocking to the Middle Of Nowhere, PA to protect ‘the white suburbs’ from the Antifa face-painting/murder squads, but this is serious shit. Somebody put that hoax out there to get this to happen, and they did what they could to make my grand nephew feel unwelcome in his own country.

Facebook is a cesspool:

A loose network of Facebook groups that took root across the country in April to organize protests over coronavirus stay-at-home orders has become a hub of misinformation and conspiracy theories that have pivoted to a variety of new targets. Their latest: Black Lives Matter and the nationwide protests of racial injustice.

These groups, which now boast a collective audience of more than 1 million members, are still thriving after most states started lifting virus restrictions.

And many have expanded their focus.

One group transformed itself last month from “Reopen California” to “California Patriots Pro Law & Order,” with recent posts mocking Black Lives Matter or changing the slogan to “White Lives Matter.” Members have used profane slurs to refer to Black people and protesters, calling them “animals,” “racist” and “thugs”— a direct violation of Facebook’s hate speech standards.

Well, you know that;s true, and I know that’s true, but unfortunately, the “attention” such a statement would be likely to get would probably be entirely negative, and result mainly in a flurry of “MSM” vaporings about how Biden was :”lowering the tone” of the campaign, or simply generate more BS about his own “cognitive issues”, and give Trump and the GOP one more talking-point about “abusive” Democrats, or whatever….

One lesson I hope Joe and his team have absorbed (and as he has been around DC for decades, I can’t imagine they would ignore it) is that the media’s pro-Republican bias is baked-in to their mindset - or at least at the newsroom/corporate-management level - and that the best they can hope for in campaign coverage (especially with a showoff clown like Donald Trump on the other side) is the occasional grudging admission that Republicans might NOT be right all the time about every issue. But of course, that tack will have to be “balanced” by the viewpoint that Democrats are never right about any issue.
Fairness, y’know….

Between Fire Island - where a guy showed up with COVID symptoms and sat on the beach waiting to feel better (and went off when called out for it) and the Hamptons assholes who apparently think having money makes them bulletproof, I have even more reasons to be ashamed of the place I live.

My first gig back is supposed to be next Saturday, in the Hamptons. I’m seriously hoping it gets canceled, and I’ve decided to get off the gig circuit altogether by Fall. None of this is going to get better before it gets a lot worse. Selfish assholes will be the death of us all.
