Here’s what’s confirmed:

Trump has it.
Hicks has it.
Miller has it.
Melania has it (and hasn’t been seen/heard from since).
Ronna has it. Conway has it. McEneny has it (as does a shit ton of her propagandists).
JCS are in quarantine because USCG top official has it, and 2d in command of the USMC has it
Multiple staffers in the WH have it (nonpolitical positions).
Multiple GOP Senators have it.

Christie has it and has been in the hospital for 6 days now. That’s as a precaution or so they’d like folks to think.

The GOP and Trump refuse to contact trace or take responsibility for any of this. They’re busy blaming the military for it (not Trump who refuses to mask/social distance and bullies the sycophantic suckups and craven cowards working for Trump into not wearing masks even among those with preexisting conditions).
Trumpworld just own-goaled a decapitation strike on the US government.

Way OT but I have been having fun lately with an emulator of DECSystem 20 - which was a PDP-10 KL10 running the TOPS-20 operating system. It’s actually not that bad because it follows the same DEC conventions that VMS uses so I am not going totally nuts. Documentation is easily found online too. Ive got a binder full of a user’s manual and operator cheat sheets

But I am looking forward to sitting my son down at a terminal window and seeing his reaction (never even done MS-DOS much less even a Unix shell… O_o

Ah the joys of being a real computer geek…

The theory behind our democracy implies that people who need to go to prison will almost never be elected president. We need to fine-tune a few things.

We are going to get new phones. Probably iPhones. We aren’t ponying up the cash to buy the latest one, but want to get a good solid phone that will last for awhile.

Is iPhone 7 too old? Should we go for something a little closer to what’s out right now?

We’ve never had iPhones. I love iPads and am on my second one, so I can easily find my was around the iPhone.

We just want a damn good reliable phone that we aren’t going to have to replace for a few years. Any advice?

Not sure what your budget is, but the new iPhone SE costs much less than the flagship phone but still has newer hardware that an iphone 7 or even 8. Might cost a little more than the 7 or 8 but it will be new. Otherwise, apple generally supports a phone for 5 years after they stop selling it so a 7 will continue to receive updates until something like 2024.

Don’t do anything until after Tuesday Oct. 13. Apple will be announcing the latest iPhone 12 and its iterations. You’ll probably find really good deals on previous models.

The thing about science fiction is that it’s always limited by what then-current science asserts is “possible.” Before the microprocessor revolution of the late-70s/early-80s, scifi continued to foresee computers as getting more capable but also never shrinking down much farther than the room-sized monstrosities of the real world. Same thing happened in the 90s and early-00’s, with nobody predicting the smartphone and so assuming that portable computing would remain largely limited to laptops.
