The judge is giving Rudy so much rope that he’s going to hang not only Rudy but every GOPer who has gone along with this farce.

I only hope that the judge imposes sanctions and costs on Trump to cover the court’s time and the wasted time/effort by the various states having to defend against this baseless claptrap.

Other than the 2018 North Carolina voter fraud perpetrated by the Republican candidate, there are two problems with mail-in ballots:

1. (Case I mentioned before): An invalid voter whose caregiver votes contrary to their wishes. Over a decade ago, a cousin who was a devout Republican apparently boasted of the votes he cast on behalf of his Democratic mother who was ill from Alzheimer’s and unaware of his actions.
2. Votes are no longer private and may be coerced. An abusive spouse or parent can force others in their household to vote according to their wishes.

The votes they couldn’t observe, which presumably would be just enough to tip the state over. If they can’t determine a precise number, then probably just invalidate all of the ballots from those counties, just to be on the safe side. Because you know, casually disenfranchising entire counties just to be sure your boss doesn’t get arrested for all his financial crimes in New York is obviously no big deal compared to the horrendous injustice of a couple of ballot observers being mildly inconvenienced.

San Diego county is almost done counting our votes.

Trump increased his share of the votes, but so did Biden over Clinton. Biden increased the Dem share by more than Trump increased his own share of the total.

The big change was that this time around very few people voted for third party candidates.

Anyway, with total vote count way up, participation rate up, we can conclude this: Very little has changed over 4 years, in the major political party results. Sure, the Dems have registered more voters in 4 years than the Republicans, but the bottom line is that in 2016 36% of San Diego voted for Trump, in 2020 that went up to 37%.

This does suggest that Trump could shoot someone on 5th Ave. and 36% of the county would vote for him.

If after four years of malicious incompetence doesn’t cost Trump, then nothing will.

This all goes to show, once again, that getting votes has everything to do with personality and marketing and nothing to do with performance.

Georgia secretary of state reveals Trump ‘suppressed’ GOP voters: ‘He would have won by 10,000 votes’

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Tuesday said that President Donald Trump had himself to blame for losing the state’s electoral votes in the 2020 election.

Raffensperger told WSB’s Justin Gray that 24,000 Republicans who voted by absentee ballot in the primary did not cast votes in the general election.

The secretary of state linked the lack of participation to Trump’s effort to demonize mail-in voting.

I think he was banking on fucking over the mail-in vote and was basically doing insider trading by telling his people to vote in person on Election Day. His so-called advisers probably told him they could slam-dunk shut down a late Biden win by disqualifying all absentee ballots based on some legal mumbo-jumbo which he pretended to agree to pay them a fortune for. Now his cases are collapsing, reality is closing in, and he might eventually realize that he sold his chances of re-election up the river for a con.

The boy was younger than 15?

I’ve always figured it was probably more a 16 or 17 year old - young enough to be icky and largely illegal, but old enough to be just borderline legal in certain jurisdictions, enough to muddy the waters, anyway.

Enough to destroy Graham politically if it got out, but with enough leeway that Graham could try to assuage any conscience he might have.

Initially, her appeal was (from February):

Powell has steadfastly ignored Trump’s taunts. But his term atop the central bank expires in 2022, and Fed watchers believe the president if reelected could look to tap Shelton to replace him.

Her appeal for Trump is no mystery. It is “clear that Shelton wants to politicize the Fed, because she explicitly said she wants to,” Post columnist Catherine Rampell writes. “In an op-ed last fall, she argued that the Fed should ‘pursue a more coordinated relationship’ with the White House.” As one of 12 voting members of the Federal Open Market Committee that sets the benchmark interest rate, Shelton would have limited leverage to pull central bank policy toward Trump’s preferred approach; but as chair, she could exert considerably more influence.

She was his fiscal advisor to his 2016 campaign.

She has been a fixture in conservative politics for a long time … she is sixty-six years old.

In 2009 she wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal arguing for a return to the gold standard.

Capitalism Needs a Sound-Money Foundation (Feb. 12, 2009)

She also opposed FDIC, which aligns with both libertarians and conservatives.

I had been eye balling the week after Thanksgiving as problematic for schools for a bit because of what happened in Canada (not an original idea, I know). Everyone already had the week of Thanksgiving off, but I was hoping they would move that to the week after. Going full remote the Monday after Thanksgiving is the next best thing—just wish it didn’t extend through all of December (at least). Like churches?

More like no one is commuting to NYC, so how did it get here? Never mind that some people go from NYC to the suburbs and then people from the suburbs go to the exurbs, and someone decides to go home to W. VA to visit family or go fishing. There was no sense that people are traveling all the time and spreading it around. The fact that it had moved slowly to outlying areas was totally lost on this woman.

Yeah, looks like they’re trying to build a super team.

Oh man. I’m so sorry about your Knicks condition. That’s a hard road.

They were my first fave NBA team. Then I went to the Celtics.

I loved my ABA Rockets who became the Nuggets when they joined the NBA, and they’ve been my team (mostly) since.

I’m optimistic about NYK getting marginally better this year. New coaching staff, a couple of nice picks tomorrow night, the youngs maybe taking another step. Maybe a surprise left-field trade might help.

They’ll be good again one of these days. Hopefully I’ll live long enough to see it. :)

re: #184 Belafon

There’s a specific verse where it says that governments are set up by God.

Romans 13 v1,2

1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

This section of Romans serves as a negation of every right-wing loony bird assertion that government is bad bad evil Satan Demoncrap Socialist commie hellspawn. Of course the context in this part of Romans serves as an easy-out argument to avoid harassment from local Roman authorities, or was written into the New Testament by Roman bishops on order to serve the then new Holy Roman Empire. In any case, this is clearly a very problematic series of verses for modern American theocrats. Very problematic.

West Virginians who work in Ohio brought it home and then they shared it at church.

First case in my eastern Kentucky county was a young man who worked in Ohio. He gave it to his friends and family before he got tested.
The nursing home outbreak in my county started with one resident who got it from a hospital employee and within a couple of weeks it spread like wildfire and people started dying on a daily basis.

- and as we know, it wouldnt solve all (or most) of his legal problems which exist at state level

here’s the one big plus:

As opposed to Ford/Nixon, Biden could make it enumerated and specific, thus forcing Trump, if he wanted to accept, into an admission of guilt.

We cannot let a Mafia criminal cabal be allowed to continuously walk away from the repercussions of their actions. The Republican cult has actively damaged our nation for more than 50 years now enriching themselves at the direct expense of the large majority population of this country.

Pardons for Trump and his criminal gang will only serve to further Republican efforts to destroy what little remains of bipartisanship and national cooperation. We are teetering on the edge of a failed state status, and few seem ready to believe it. Republican leadership wants a filed state. Pardons for them will only serve to hasten it.

I think it will be a party of one (Biden) that thinks this is a good idea. If Biden listens to other people, he can always say “the people have spoken” or something similar that takes the heat off him.

To let this go doesn’t teach them anything, it only shows how far they can go and get away with it. They have, and look where we are now. Think of how bad it will be if they all get off scot free.

As of 10/2
several Democratic mayors and governors have contracted the virus, including Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam…

NPR has been keeping tabs on specific members of Congress who have tested positive for the coronavirus or quarantined after being exposed to it. According to the list, three Republican senators and nine representatives have tested positive or were presumed to have the coronavirus since the pandemic began. That’s more than the Democrats, who have had no senators and six representatives test positive for the virus.

Remember: the electors are chosen by the state parties. They are mostly party operative types. There is absofuckinglutely no cotdam way that any Democratic elector is going to flip to Trump.

2016 was an outlier - the faithless electors were not going to flip the election. They were basically protest votes against both Clinton and Trump (who were, if memory serves, the two least popular presidential nominees in the Post-War Era).

We here in California use paper ballots now. I think we did a short experiment with electronic voting, but in the past few elections I remember paper ballots. And of course this year all registered Californians got a paper ballot in the mail.

And guess what - it works just fine.

That’s right, they bought shiny new voting machines, I want to say sometime in the ’80s, and we used them for one or two elections… then problems with the machines were found and we all went back to paper.

Grassley comes from northwest Iowa. Steve King territory. Chosen (white) people of God.

Same area that is under an explosion of Covid cases.

At the beginning some on the right probably looked at the statistics and concluded that non-white people were more inclined to get covid because they were non-white, not because they had the most dangerous jobs and lived in the more people-per-family-per home. Likely concluded that good genes would see them through.

My hunch is that either the day after the EC meets (in December) or the EC vote is certified (January 6), Trump will resign and Pence being the mealymouthed bootlicker he is will immediately issue a blanket pardon for Trump/Ivanka/Jared/Miller for their time in the White House. And then shortly thereafter Trump will announce he’s running in 2024, but on a third party ticket (probably the Constitution Party) so he can bitch about everything Biden does for four years and will be doing rallies anywhere he can. He’ll say the pardons were because Biden was going to try to lock him up, even though everything he did was totally legal and Biden is just mad because Trump did such a good job fighting for real Americans, yadayadayada

Granted, reading that, it sounds like a terrible West Wing spec script, but Trump’s been so fucking terrible the last 4-5 years, it would simply not surprise me if this played out just like this.

“I don’t have the coronavirus,” Jackson said at the time. “I’m not going to get the coronavirus. I’m not going to give anybody the coronavirus, because I can’t get it, because I talked to God about it, and I’ve taken my vaccine. My vaccine is Psalm 91, and I am free from that mess.”

“…Alex Rodriguez, a one-time mechanic with no history in local politics, never started a campaign website, attended no candidate forums and received no donations, save for a $2,000 loan from himself. Mailers pitching his name sent to voters in the Coral Gables area were sent by a shadowy political group that, so far, has been untraceable.

When a television reporter recently tracked Alex Rodriguez down, he pretended to be someone else.
…..

Alex Rodriguez’s candidacy appeared to exist for only one reason: to suck votes away from incumbent José Javier Rodríguez, who shares the same surname. The incumbent lost by just 34 votes, and he is now calling for an investigation into Alex Rodriguez — and whoever may have put him up to run.

re: #411 Anymouse 🌹🏡😷

About that:

The decision came after a number of absentee ballot poll books in Detroit were found to be out of balance, a situation that did not stop the same board from certifying the results in the August primary or the county’s November 2016 general election results.

A county board that fails to canvass within 14 days after the election must give all of its documentation to the Secretary of State’s office and Board of State Canvassers, which then has 10 days to complete the work, canvass and certify the results, according to the board’s canvassing manual.

I’m guessing Secretary of State Benson is probably going to certify the results herself.

I am actually surprised he did not fire the guy sooner. I cannot wait for this long national nightmare to end. I will never forget that even to the bitter end the entire republican establishment continues to enable this dangerous unhinged sociopath in the white house.

At our current pace we will top 12 million covid cases by Friday. Current average is about four to five days per million.

Asked if they will quarantine, Blunt tells me “I was about 12 ft away from him, maybe that’s why we’re in that big room.”

Six feet is a rough safety quide for short exposure in most situations. A lot has to do with the airflows in a particular room

Does hot air flow faster, because I’m sure there was a whole lot of it in that room.

maybe because… the Nazis were sticklers for detailed documentation and Mao was not? Also, Eisenhower ordered everything the allies found the camps be filmed?

Olus, y’know Nuremberg court transcripts, which included testimony by the accused.
