Iā€™ll restate what I posted before.

I believe that Putin never released the Republican e-mails Russian hacked because he is using those e-mails to blackmail Republicans into destabilizing America.

He has some very compromising stuff on them which is why those Senators went to meet with him on July 4th. Thatā€™s where he issued his orders to them.

America, FUCK YEAH!!

3200+ dead in a DAY.

Oh and weā€™ll most likely hit 300000 total by tomorrow.

Weā€™re also closing in on having DOUBLE the number of cases as the next highest country.

Less than a week with my newly adopted stray cat. I do love her. I walked out of the bedroom in the dark to put the chain on the door, and while I was doing that, I felt her whiskers going by roughly ankle high. Now sheā€™s settling in to her little cat bed, under my bed, by giving it a good clawing. Itā€™s just very comforting to have someone else in the apartment.

Thatā€™s not the issue. The issue is if the Senate Rā€™s are comprised in some way, then why wonā€™t/havenā€™t our intelligence, national security, law enforcement agencies done anything about it?

Thatā€™s the real question.

We are the third largest nation on the planet. I would be very skeptical of the numbers from India who may not have the capacity to do wide scale testing and from China who lies about everything, but they may really have this under control (or not).

Trumpā€™s ā€œmore testing means more casesā€ is exactly backward from how screening tests work.

Since for the most part the only people who are being tested are those who seem to have symptoms or people who were exposed, the percentages of infections show as awfully high (as in the Panhandle, where the positivity rate is 58.9%).

Testing everyone would show a whole bunch more negatives, and also catch those who are asymptomatic before they can spread the disease further.

So neither one of us have regular sleep patterns. I do a 3 or 4 hour stint at night and maybe a 2 hour afternoon nap. Dude goes to sleep about 9 and wakes at 3.

Anyway, both of us are used to being awake in the wee hours.

Thatā€™s background for this. Both of us have been hearing planes during those hours. Our airport has always closed down at 11P and first flights in the morning are no earlier than 6.

Military, we guess. But why are they flying during those hours?

Itā€™s weirding us out.

And people are still saying itā€™s no worse than the flu, and no more deaths than usual. Theyā€™ve finally co-opted the term ā€œexcess deaths,ā€ but explain how there are no excess deaths - that this is all a farce to make Trump look bad, to steal the election.

If you marched these people through multiple ER rooms, theyā€™d still say it was all a plot, or claim the patients are all plants on Sorosā€™ payroll. There is no convincing them there really are this many people sick and dying from this disease. Itā€™s truly an alternate reality.

My comment on this article just posted at the Scottsbluff Star-Herald

So our state is joining Texasā€™s fascist coup to deny the voters of other states their right to vote. Thank you Doug Peterson. Strange how they are only suing in states which went for Joe Biden, and not a single state which went for Donald Trump. Moreover, Texas is suing for the same thing its own governor Greg Abbot did. I hope Nebraska is ready for a countersuit from New York, California, or other states trying to deny Nebraska voter rights.

The IL-80ā€™s (there are four) are based outside of Moscow. The plane in question was going through a major maintenance check down near Rostov, several hundred miles downriver on the Volga. Apparently some thieves accessed the base, the hanger, the plane, and popped an exterior equipment bay hatch and stole a bunch of comm gear (I read something- something about ā€œ39 radio setsā€.)

Sure sounds like they had inside help.

Eventually I want to get to the point where I can print and mount my photos to try and sell them to the tourist trade up here in Northern Wisconsin.

In the meantime, I want to get some prints done to experiment with gifts and possibly testing the selling waters. Iā€™m especially interested in up to 16x20 as the Epson P900 Iā€™m looking at takes 17ā€ rolls.

Does anyone have a preferred printing service? While there is a Walgreens just down the street, I donā€™t think they do as big a print as I hope to go and the last time I tried to get a square print done there, well, letā€™s just say they didnā€™t understandā€¦.

A house in Omaha exploded yesterday, killing Theresa Toledo and her daughter. Her grandson is severely burned and was transported to a burn unit in Kansas City. The daughter is Alexander Toledoā€™s mother.

Sheā€™d sworn out a restraining order to have her grandson removed from her house; in the order she stated she feared he would try to burn down her house.

Alexander Toledo was out on bail from a charge in another county for possession of drugs.

The houses on either side were severely damaged in the explosion, but no one was injured in those homes.

It seems to me that there need to be serious legal repercussions for all involved in the Paxton suit: every single lawyer needs to be brought up before their bar association and disciplined. Are there any lawyers here who know whether such a process is feasible? The 17 AGā€™s who signed on are as culpable as Paxton ā€” they can read the suit and they know what they have agreed to. It would be wonderful if they could all be subject to disbarment ā€” but that is probably not in the cards. They have violated any oath they took to support the Constitution.

The demolition of Crossroads Mall in Omaha started today. It will be replaced with a mixed use residence, office, shopping building ten stories high.

omaha.com

The new project will cost half a billion dollars.

The mall opened in 1960. The article includes photos of the area and the mall starting in 1946.

The mallā€™s rentals were nearly empty. The only part of the mall which will remain is the Target store. The Applebeeā€™s and Best Buy on the outlots have already been torn down.

The largest remaining malls in Nebraska are Westwood Mall in Omaha and Monument Mall in Scottsbluff, both fully rented.

Are brainwashed relatives involved with this?

Yes. Jesus told them to go to DC for Trump along with their fellow Xtiansā€¦

Evangelicals plan to encircle Supreme Court to make ā€˜walls of corruption and election fraud to fall downā€™

This Tuesday, the Supreme Court rejected a request from Pennsylvania Republicans to overturn Joe Bidenā€™s victory in the state, dealing a huge blow to Trumpland in their attempts to help President Trump retain the White House. There were no noted dissents in the Courtā€™s ruling.

Incensed by the Courtā€™s betrayal, figures inside the pro-Trump evangelical cult sent out a press release announcing the ā€œJericho Marchā€ planned for December 12, where ā€œJericho Marchers will simultaneously march around the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, and Department of Justice seven times praying for the walls of corruption and election fraud to fall down, just as Joshua and the Israelites walked around the walls of corrupt Jericho.ā€

ā€œFollowing the marches, patriots and people of faith will converge on the National Mall for the ā€˜Let the Church ROAR!ā€™ā€ the release states.

My replyā€”F THE CHURCHES!

deadstate.org

One of the featured speakers at the march will be recently pardoned former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Among the marchā€™s organizers is self-proclaimed ā€œprophetā€ Cindy Jacobs, who once tried to ā€œdecree that the coronavirus will cease worldwideā€ ā€” a decree that didnā€™t work out too well.

Overall, I donā€™t think he minds Californiaā€™s current politics.

As to covid, I think heā€™s done as well as could be expected given an entirely new disease and absolutely no federal help or guidance. The policies he put in place got us through the summer without overwhelming the medical infrastructure. (I would argue that allowing any kind of indoor dining was a mistake, and he should probably have emphasized that outdoor dining with people you donā€™t live with was also a bad idea.) But the surge in cases seems to be spreading from the red areas of the state ā€” the two hospitals neatest to mine have 2% and 5% covid patients.

Also, joining with the other western states will continue to be useful once we start distributing the vaccine.

If you read the whole report rather than the headline, the two allergic reactions reported were in the placebo group, where the placebo was the meningitis vaccine, not the Covid-19 vaccine.

There was a report Wednesday that 2 NHS workers who received the vaccine Tuesday had reactions.

The way to tell Wyoming and Nebraska apart:

Wyoming has the Rocky Mountains.

Nebraska is flat (except for the Sandhills).

Pfizer explicitly warns against those with certain allergies receiving the inoculations; it is likely there was a flaw in the administration process; these employees should have been identified and excluded from receiving the vaccine.

They warned after the incidents. What allergic reaction is triggered? Can it be predicted who will react? Still there are 2 other good candidate vaccines that may not cause that reaction.

I have Kaiser Permanente Medical and they seem to be backing Modernaā€™s vaccine, although Iā€™m more interested in the Oxford-AstraZeneca DNA vaccine candidate.

Weā€™ve spent decades tearing things down and building thingsā€¦ just to tear them down again because we discovered the previous builds were not long-term viable.

The belief that we can do this forever is part of the non-reality that is ubiquitous in American society.

Britainā€™s biggest retailer is stockpiling long-life food as Boris Johnson struggles to find a way through the deadlock in trade negotiations and has again warned against panic buying.

Meanwhile, the test run that France conducted to see how things would work in the event of a no-deal Brexit showed that back-ups could number in the days rather than hours.

Places that suck to drive through, in no particular order:

The Great Plains, literally any of the states, I-90, I-80, I-70, thatā€™s, like, thousands of miles of nothing.
Texas Panhandle, you want to see bulldozed flatness? Youā€™ll never see any flatter terrain, including The Great Plains.
Southern Idaho, imagine the most beautiful terrain on all sides, except itā€™s 200 miles away in all directions and all you see are potato fields.
Most of the southeast United States, again, very flat, except itā€™s a massive forest and not much else, with some cities and lots of backward ass towns in between.
Las Vegas to Cajon Pass, dreadful desert wasteland for almost five hours.
The Great Basin, every 50 miles or so youā€™ll see some mountains, but the middle of Nevada is one of the most lonesome places in the country.

IT START UP DUDE: Hey, this place looks great. Iā€™d like to start a company here. I will need broadbant internet though.
MAYOR: Whatā€™s ā€œbroadband internetā€? We donā€™t have that here and we donā€™t need that here!
IT START UP DUDE: Okay, well, bye, then. *leaves to set up company on West Coast*

ETSY ENTREPRENEUR: Hey, this town is so quaint. I think weā€™ll move here!
MAYOR: Great, so what does your husband do?
ETSY ENTREPRENEUR: Oh, my wife does coding, we can work from anywhere.
MAYOR: Wife? What are you one of them lesbians? We donā€™t like homos here.
ETSY ENTREPRENEUR: Wow, weā€™re out of here. *leaves to set up company in New England*

EDUCATOR: Hey, this is a beautiful area. Think Iā€™ll set up a for-profit school to retrain miners to code.
MAYOR: Haw haw haw, like thatā€™s ever going to be a thing. Coal is coming back! MAGA!
EDUCATOR: Yeah, okay, Iā€™m out. *leaves to go start a coding school in Chicago*

WEED GROWER: Oh hey man, this is super nice here. Can I set up a business here?
MAYOR: Why sure! Weā€™d love to have you!
WEED GROWER: Okay, so Iā€™ll be planting like 400 Indica plants.
MAYOR: Whatā€™s that you say? We donā€™t want your kind here!!!
WEED GROWER: Oh, ok. *leaves to grow weed in California*

MOTHER OF THREE: Oh, this looks like a great town to raise our kids in!
MAYOR: You bet! What church do you go to?
MOTHER OF THREE: Oh, sorry, weā€™re atheists.
MAYOR: Have you not accepted the love of Jesus Christ?
MOTHER OF THREE: Uhhhhhā€¦.well, thatā€™s uncomfortable. *leaves to raise kids in the Pacific Northwest*

RECENT COLLEGE GRAD: Hey, Iā€™d like to settle here.
MAYOR: Great! Thereā€™s a ton of jobs here!
RECENT COLLEGE GRAD: Uhā€¦.wow, they are all like below $12 an hour.
MAYOR: So? You can work more hours, work your way up! Why, when I was your age [rambles on for 87 hours]
*recent college grad leaves and goes to work for Google*

NEW IMMIGRANT: Hey, this place is lovely.
MAYOR: Are you a terrorist?
NEW IMMIGRANT: Waitā€¦ā€¦whatā€¦.?
MAYOR: Well you look kind of Ay-rab like.
NEW IMMIGRANT: Well, we are Muslims, butā€¦
MAYOR: We donā€™t like your kind much
NEW IMMIGRANT: Yikes. *leaves to make a home in New York*

MAYOR: I donā€™t understand why people are leaving here and donā€™t want to move here. Weā€™re such a welcoming community! All sorts of people are welcome!
HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR: Yeah, both evangelical and fundamentalist.
MAYOR: What?
HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR: I canā€™t wait to get out of this dump and get a life.
MAYOR: I donā€™t understand why none of the young people want to stay here!

All sorts of low-grade allergies or infections will do that. I had a reduced sense of smell for a couple of months about two years back (way before covid), cause never determined. And from what I hear about covid, your sense of smell disappears completely when you have it.

In a state where the Republican governor, Kristi L. Restaurants were packed. Big weddings and funerals went on as planned.

Then people started dying.

The result of the deaths? A toothless mask mandate, fought tooth and nail by anti-maskers and mask-deniers.

So fix the police/protection people, donā€™t give the state the right to kill ā€œbad guysā€. You know the people who will be killed by the state are not the ā€œguiltyā€ they are the unwanted/disrespected.

The death penalty is wrong in multiple ways, but the wrongest part of it is who decides who will die, and that decision is, and always will be, made by bad people.

re: #156 BigPapa

But isnā€™t that the Ghouliani Effect: farts spread COVID?

On a serious noteā€¦we all know that South Korea has a very thorough and efficient contact tracing program. What they discovered is that a high school student spent 5 minutes 20 feet away from a woman with COVID-19 and the student got sick as well. Obviously, you can see the implications.

The South Korean study began with a mystery. When a high school senior in Jeonju tested positive for the virus on June 17, epidemiologists were stumped because the city hadnā€™t had a coronavirus case in two months. North Jeolla province, where Jeonju is located, hadnā€™t had one for a month. The girl hadnā€™t traveled out of the region in recent weeks and had largely gone from home to school and back.

Contact tracers turned to the countryā€™s Epidemic Investigation Support System, a digital platform introduced in South Korea amid the pandemic that allows investigators to access cellphone location information and credit card data of infected individuals in as little as 10 minutes.

Cellphone GPS data revealed that the student had briefly overlapped with another known coronavirus patient from a different city and province altogether, a door-to-door saleswoman who had visited Jeonju. Their connection was a first-floor restaurant on the afternoon of June 12 ā€” for just five minutes.

Authorities in the city of Daejeon, where the door-to-door saleswoman was visiting from, said the woman did not tell contact tracers sheā€™d visited Jeonju, about an hourā€™s drive away, where her company held a meeting with 80 people on the sixth floor of the building with the restaurant.

Are you in enough of a tourist area that there are art galleys around? The gallery manager might be able to steer you to someone.

Also might find advise in a small business that does framing work - or they might steer you to someone with expertise.

Local place I use for framing sells artwork on the side and is in essence a small-scale art gallery. And they sub-contract out some of their framing work depending on what it is being framed; e.g. stuff like shadow boxes for displaying thicker items.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area.

The 7 day rolling average of covid19 cases keeps climbing. We had over 3,000 deaths from covid19 yesterday. Itā€™s likely to top that figure again. Weā€™ll be above 300,000 deaths from covid19 tomorrow.

This was fucking preventable. Masking and social distancing can and do save lives, but Trumpists politicized both and made containment all but impossible.

Wearing a mask is cost effective and cheap. It can prevent not only spread of covid but other respiratory ailments (which is why flu remains low this year thus far). Had everyone worn a mask from March onwards, we could have not only contained the spread, but utilized the testing to contain and stamp out localized outbreaks. You canā€™t do contact tracing when community spread is out of control.

Lockdowns are a last gasp measure to protect health care delivery. If hospitals are overwhelmed and care collapses, deaths soar. Prevent that by masking and social distancing and enforcing that in retail/commercial spaces.

The thorny issue is how to deal with restaurants where you canā€™t mask while physically eating. That means itā€™s a way for covid to spread, and thereā€™s a study out of South Korea that showed that indoor distancing is variable and that there can be no safe distance if thereā€™s significant air movement. One person got covid19 despite being more than 20 feet away and in the space for 5 minutes of overlap. The key was that the person was in direct path of air conditioning, so it funneled the aerosolized droplets from the infected person to the victim.

The study suggests that the best way to protect yourself is to bring an anemometer to check air movement. If thereā€™s significant air movement, that increases the chances of spread despite all the other measures/precautions taken.

ā€œHerd immunityā€ meshed well with their propaganda BS that CV-19 was ā€œno worse than the flu.ā€ The ā€œlogicā€ was simple: Everybody gets sick for a few days, everybody recovers quickly, and the people at greatest risk will be safe by locking them in their homes for a few weeks.

Of course, the unspoken corollary to this ā€œsimpleā€ principle is that, given the nature of the virus, a whole lot of people (over and above the ā€œnormalā€ numbers) are going to die from it. Which is probably why it was ā€œunspokenā€ā€¦

Exactly, the unspoken reality of ā€œherd immunityā€ is that in absence of vaccine, the only way to achieve it is for the outbreak to burn itself out. And the only way that happens is if people are so far apart that transmission becomes impossible or the number of people vulnerable to the virus is reduced to the point that the outbreak can no longer sustain itself.

tl;dr: A whole lotta people either gotta die or be so scared of dying that they lock themselves off.

No serious law firm (the kind that has paralegals, staffers and interns to do the grunt work) is about to take such a thing on, so they are winging it and finding out how much hard work goes into a pressing a case like this.

re: #275 Eclectic Cyborg

Iā€™ve kept a VERY tight pod during this. Just two other small families that we know we can trust.

I talked to my sister in the suburbs yesterday about how she and everyone around her is doing. Sounds like everyone is doing OK, but then she said that one of her grade-school aged grandkids had just gotten back from a trip to Florida. That set off all of my triggers. I said OMG but didnā€™t go on about it; I donā€™t need to tell my sister the dangers. She said that her son had to spend a lot of time helping the grandkid get caught up on his homework. Iā€™m now scared for the family. I hope theyā€™ll be OK.

Texas Lt Gov Dan Patrick was a right wing radio hack in Houston. He was tea party before tea party was even a thang.

I saw that Rep Johnson, the Louisiana Rep who is gathering support in the House for the Texas nonsense is also a former talk radio host. As is Pence too. Their party has been taken over by the Limbaughs of the country. These arenā€™t deep thinkers. They just hate liberals.

ā€˜Every crematory in Texas is overwhelmed:ā€™ Third mobile morgue arrives in Amarillo

Last month, the city announced the arrival of two mobile morgues in Amarillo but as space continues to be a problem a third unit was requested.

The request was made by Shafer Mortuary Services through Texas emergency management officials.

The temporary units on site can hold 50 bodies each and are currently full.

ā€œWe have probably 150 deceased people and we had to call in for the morgue trailers,ā€ said Candice Shafer, owner of Shafer Mortuary Services. ā€œWe have those two full and theyā€™re sending us a third one.ā€

The mortuary provides assistance to not only local funeral homes, but also the rest of the counties in the Texas Panhandle.

Over the last month they have done over triple the number of cremations they would normally do.

Or have figured out how to make the loudmouth conservative grift more profitable and a route to greater power than a talking head on AM morning radio.

like you all i am trying to keep moving forward and not dwell too much

itā€™s not easy when everything is so ā€˜in your faceā€™ because of every move you make, or dont make, or cant make, or have to make. Itā€™s all so Chidi Anagonye.

i read another tragic story and get worried again.
i want to redouble our efforts to protect ourselves while still not knowing how much is enough, or too much.
can it never be just enough?
could it be obsessive?

because weā€™ll only get one chance,
mrsdm is very high risk with her lung condition.
mom is 92
and im just a run of the mill 63 y.o. male which doesnt bode well either.
elite athletes in way better condition than me, a mere duffer, have succumbed.

so i keep on keeping on. run every morning. arrange meals. do my job from home, food shop once a week. keep up a routine.
pretend iā€™m in control and theresā€™ some kind of normalcy, when iā€™m not and there isnā€™t.
but for the sake of the others anyway, do it.

i know how lucky we are. sometimes it helps. other times not so much.

and i weep for this country; what it has become.
instead of standing up and leading, it fell flat on its puss.
all because of whoā€™s in charge and the horde of automatons who blindly follow along with every assholic thing he thinks and every moronic move he makes.

Damn, that looks good.

Bob Odenkirk playing a John Wick-type role (in a movie written by the main writer for the John Wick movies and directed by the director of Hardcore Henry, no less)? Yes, please!

Yeah, Iā€™ll definitely try to see it as well when itā€™s released. Some of it might seem cliched here and there, but what the hell, itā€™s one of those ā€œshut up and take my moneyā€ sort of films.

All major problems in US politics are exclusively caused by Republicans, and the Great Both Sides Lie of the mainstream media is to pretend that this isnā€™t true.

Does anyone have a preferred printing service? While there is a Walgreens just down the street, I donā€™t think they do as big a print as I hope to go and the last time I tried to get a square print done there, well, letā€™s just say they didnā€™t understandā€¦.

You will see visible smoke rising from government buildings before the Biden Inauguration along with dumpsters full of smashed hard drives.

I just hope they recycle all those shredded documents. /
