A baseless election lawsuit brought by the Texas Attorney General and backed by the Republican AGs of 17 other states is giving the president hope that the Supreme Court will somehow prevent Joe Biden from taking office. #Colbert #Monologue #ALateShow

Hypoxic pilot refuses to wear a mask

C-17 copilot and staunch conspiracy theorist Air Force 1st Lt. Kyle Korrigan received harsh criticism and a nap yesterday after refusing to wear a mask, according to sources. An unexpected depressurization at 37,000 feet knocked the pilot out, leaving the copilot claiming that supplemental oxygen is part of a “liberal agenda.”
*snip*
Korrigan is expected to make a full recovery but is currently dealing with a severe headache. Investigators say the headache is likely not a result of low oxygen levels, however. Instead, it resulted from the pilot hitting his head during emergency descent, since Korrigan also doesn’t wear seatbelts.

CL’d from the last thread

For the past few days, I’ve been obsessed with Puppy for Hanukkah.

1. Daveed Diggs is awesome.
2. Those kids in the video are adorable.
3. PUPPY!!!!!!

My obsession led me to a reaction video by one of the kids in the video (the one sitting at the table at the start of the video).

In his reaction commentary, he talks about his puffy hair. He said he didn’t realize how puffy it was until he saw the video. At one point, he says, “I look like Bob Ross.” That this kid knows about Bob Ross is my everything.

Here’s the reaction video in case anyone want to check it out.

Two things that might impede these Patriots’ cruising plan—(it’s supposed to be on the Norwegian Joy)

1. Norwegian Cruise Lines is looking at whether it can require passengers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 before allowing them on a cruise ship. (we know these morons would object to that)

2. Norwegian might not even be sailing. Norwegian Cruise Lines voyages are currently canceled until March, and Del Rio says there’s a good chance further delays will be announced.

fool.com

Can’t find anything about how Bermuda feels about the whole thing, but having spent much time on that island, I don’t believe these morons would be particularly welcomed there.

GOP candidate who pushed QAnon conspiracy theory gets arrested for child pornography

Ben Gibson, who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in November, was arrested in Louisiana this Wednesday and booked on four counts of child pornography, WGNO reports.

Gibson, who was an active Airman at Barksdale Air Force Base, was a challenger in a four-way race for the U.S. House Dist. 4 Congressional seat and lost to Rep. Mike Johnson, who won re-election. Jared Kutz, 30, of Bossier City was also arrested as a result of the investigation and charged with two counts of pornography.

Since Trump broke norms as to how a president behaves and functions, this gives the Dems a full license to do everything Trump pulled and to push further - problem is that Biden won’t have the stones to do so, given that he’s going to be left with the shitstorms caused by Trump’s feckless behavior. And should some GOPers actually get indicted, you’ll hear the banshee scream from the right of ‘criminalization of politics’.

Naaah: I think the “Republican play” here is that they all know (with certainty ) that the Texas suit is going to get swatted down, and that Joe and Kamala are going to be duly “selected” by the EC next Monday - but that they are going to line up behind the Trumpsters’ last desperate attempt(s) to “sway” the election, so that at the least, they can campaign on the “Well, we tried our best, but the election was stolen from us by [insert Boogeyman HERE]” shtick next time round….

It’s pure political theater. Way they figure it, they have little to lose. If the case gets (rightly) squashed, then they have covered their right flank against accusations that they refused to “support” Trump and thus support “fair elections.” And if it should somehow get ruled in their favor, then they get their dictator put in office for however long he chooses to stay.

I never trust the first iteration of anything, because as a gamer and tech junkie I’ve been burned or known others who were burned too many times because a company wanted to employ its customers as beta testers.

Realistically, our house has two junk drawers: One for the random bits and bobs the every kitchen seems to collect (ex: twist ties for long dead loaves of bread), the other for all the paperwork and assorted detritus that comes with every new appliance and gadget. The latter really needs to be labeled “In Case of Emergency” for how often we actually look through it.

What is the “junk room” in your house? It’s that room that you call the “guest room” because you shoved a couch or other piece of furniture you keep telling yourself a “guest” could use if they ever come around, assuming they can find it under all the junk you’ve consigned to that room because you didn’t want to part with it but the attic/basement is already full.

Realistically, there’s little they can actually do. The Biden campaign isn’t a party to any of these cases, so getting involved might actually lend legitimacy to the bullshit tilting at windmills. Best to remain quiet and let all this play out as it really is: The last, desperate efforts by a pack of losers to get the courts to reverse their losses.

Our little deaf cat is the offspring of a rescue. We foster for the no kill shelter in town. Cats, that for whatever reason, are having a hard time around all the other cats. Our little Bunny’s mom was pregnant when she arrived at the shelter, and wasn’t too keen on the other cats being around her. So we took her in until she gave birth and the kittens were old enough to fend for themselves. We decided to adopt our little Bunny from that litter.

She got the name Bunny when she and her brothers and sisters were starting to get used to their feet and trying to run. All the other kittens pretty much ran like any other kittens, but Bunny hopped. It was funny as hell, wife said it reminded her of a rabbit hopping. Hence the name Bunny.

You haven’t done much cruising, have you. Failure to obey the Captain’s orders — whatever they are — will get you put off the ship at the next port. Violates your rights, eh? Take another look at the contract you signed when you bought the cruise.

That said, I have my doubts whether there’ll be any cruising in April. A few lines ran cruises in Europe in the summer, but there weren’t many cases in Europe as there are here. Seadream had twenty cruises from European ports without problems, then their first Caribbean cruise had to be interrupted because of a covid outbreak onboard.

while we’re waiting for SCOTUS, could the court actually decree that the four states votes must be thrown out and its electors replaced, given that they haven’t agreed yet to hear the case? I assume they would have to agree to hear the case first, necessitating a long period of arguments which at this point would put us well beyond the EC voting on Monday..

I mean what can the SCOTUS actually say at this point? That the Texas claims have merit but that it’s too late to do anything about them or hear the case (which sounds to me like the worst of possible worlds). Is Texas even asking for a specific form of relief or just venting?

Since Trump broke norms as to how a president behaves and functions, this gives the Dems a full license to do everything Trump pulled and to push further - problem is that Biden won’t have the stones to do so, given that he’s going to be left with the shitstorms caused by Trump’s feckless behavior. And should some GOPers actually get indicted, you’ll hear the banshee scream from the right of ‘criminalization of politics’.

Actually, it gives the dems — and only the dems — the right to criticize. Repugs can STFD and STFU for about the next ten years (they won’t, of course).

They’re demanding that the USSC void the vote totals in the four states and turn the selection of electors to the state legislatures (i.e. Repubs in those legislatures), which is actually a total contradiction of the supposed reason why they need such relief as doing so would be in contradiction to the laws of those states regarding the selection of electors.

It is possible that the Court could read the briefs and decide, based on the merits, that they don’t need further argument and they can legislate from the bench. They are far more likely to do one of two things:

1) Agree to hear the case, with an expedited schedule for hearing argument;
2) Toss the whole thing out on procedural grounds, the same way they did the PA case and the same way everything else has met its fate.

More than one journalist actually put pen to paper/pixels to screen arguing that it didn’t matter that Trump was the subject of sexual abuse/harassment allegations from 20+ women and the defendant in a case involving allegations of rape because “We don’t expect better from him,” BUT we were supposed to demand Biden either submit to the political equiv of a full body cavity search or leave the race because “We deserve better!”

She thought the dog would have been rehomed and that would satisfy the kids without having to get a dog. When my dad came home with the dog, he told my mom that he couldn’t leave the dog. All her life she was terrified of brooms.

Gidget was basically my dog from third grad through my first month of college. The first time I came home from college, she had passed the day before. I was heartbroken (click through for a pic).

I have to repeat this every so often. Conservatism is not an ideology. Liberalism is an ideology. Conservatism is actually a subset of liberalism. I don’t mean modern liberalism. I mean Classical Liberalism. I have never understood modern conservatism looking back at Edmund Burke as some kind of founding father. Burke absolutely despised the baseball-cap wearing, redneck equivalents that existed in Britain in his time. He would have viewed these people as tenants with no voting rights and no actual say in matters of state or politics. And yet modern conservatives have convinced themselves that their movement traces itself back to him, when in reality, modern conservatism traces itself back to Elmer Gantry and the Music Man.

“…A simple five-page per curiam opinion genuinely could end up in the pantheon of all-time most significant rulings in American history. Every once in a long while, the court needs to invest some of its accumulated capital in issuing judgments that are not only legally right but also respond to imminent, tangible threats to the nation. That is particularly appropriate when, as here, the court finds itself being used as a tool to actively undermine faith in our democratic institutions — including by the members of the court’s bar on whom the justices depend to act much more responsibly.

In a time that is so very deeply polarized, I cannot think of a person, group or institution other than the Supreme Court that could do better for the country right now. Supporters of the president who have been gaslighted into believing that there has been a multi-state conspiracy to steal the election recognize that the court is not a liberal institution. If the court will tell the truth, the country will listen.”

Also Friday, Republican-controlled committees in the state Legislature held an invite-only public hearing to accept testimony about the election. Republicans asked mainly conservative partisans to speak, including a Milwaukee talk radio host, but not the state’s top elections official or the head of elections in the city or county of Milwaukee. Democrats decried the hearing as a farce and stopped participating after about three hours of testimony.

Pennsylvania State Police, No. 20-1574 (November 13, 2020) (directing refund of filing fee when plaintiff inadvertently filed with the Court of Federal Claims a civil rights complaint whose caption indicated that it was intended for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania). But Plaintiffs have not requested a refund on the basis of human error. Instead, they have sought to shift blame to some unspecified but allegedly “not uncommon error” in the electronic filing system. The Court is not inclined to direct a refund of the filing fee where, as here, Plaintiffs’ counsel is either incapable of clearly articulating why the Court should do so, or worse, deliberately being less than straightforward with the Court. …”

Yeah, I saw that (that’s actually where I copied the original from). Legal Twitter is absolutely dumbfounded at how these clowns somehow continue to make even dumber and more fundamental mistakes at every step. L. Lin Wood misspelling his own name was certainly a lowlight to end all lowlights, though.

CONCLUSION
Based on the foregoing, the Clerk is directed to enter Plaintiffs’ November 17, 2020 letter and supporting documentation on the docket as a motion for refund, filed under seal. Plaintiffs’ motion for refund is DENIED.
IT IS SO ORDERED.

mine is an addition we built that was my office for a couple of years.
Little by little of “we’ll just put this in here for now” and the room is stuffed….

That’s how my current office is. My desk, wife’s desk, both desk chairs, filing cabinet, most all of my instruments and amps (except the electric piano, that is in the boys room), book shelves, plants all around the window, and various stuff everywhere. There is a path just big enough to walk from the door to the filing cabinet at the back of the office. If I or my wife are at our desk you have to roll the chair as close as you can get to the desk for the other person to walk through. But it’s cozy.

They’re going after the olds with that shit too, because with Fox News, OAN, and Newsmax, it makes a perfect quadfecta. It’s getting FWD’d and passed around like a two bit whore.

I wonder if before the Civil War, before the internet and instant news, if the Yanks scratched their heads and asked, “So what the fucking fuck is up with the crazyass South? Have you read some of the shit they’re saying? That’s some fucked up shit.” I bet they did.

304
thedopefishlives  Dec 11, 2020 • 3:18:33pm

My understanding re: Wisconsin is this is the case that they tried to file directly to the WI SC, and the justices said, “No thanks, take this through the circuit court like any normal case.” They did so, it got bench-slapped into oblivion as per usual, but now there is an agreement of fact that the court can use to actually decide the case. So now we are here again, with the WI SC being charged with determining if the circuit court’s rejection was improper. (Spoilers: They won’t.)

cat just scared the absolute bejeezus out of me. I was lying here typing on the bed and Ithought she was sleeping down below me. No, apparently she’d quietly exited off the other side at some point, because she just launched herself over me to make it to the other side of the bed from the floor over here. I had to throw her off while changing sheets, so she’s been a little miffed with me. I hope the mahi-mahi in the bowl brings accord.

The pre-Civil War South was an echo chamber. They had laws in place restricting mail, a gag law going in Congress regarding anti-slavery petitions, and a very solid media/religious coverage telling them they were “right” to hold slaves.
