I wonder if Russian kompromat will turn up in the Gaetz investigation? If not, they missed a great opportunity, something they are not in the habit of doing.

Yes. The first 2 from DT and cronies. The third one from Joe.

The second one from DT should have been $2,000 but McConnell objected; the $1,400 from Joe was to allow the total distribution to reach $2,000. Let’s be grateful that McConnell was such a jerk; otherwise too many voters would remain under the delusion that the funds were provided from DT’s personal “assets”. Now some may have re-directed their gratitude to Joe.

“Once the person is cuffed, the threat level goes down all the way,” the lieutenant said on the stand.

US Capitol is on lockdown after Capitol Police officers injured outside the building

The US Capitol is on lockdown as law enforcement responded to reports of a shooting and that an individual rammed a vehicle into two law enforcement officers.

“(US Capitol Police) is responding to the North Barricade vehicle access point along (Constitution) Avenue for reports someone rammed a vehicle into two USCP officers. A suspect is in custody. Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital,” USCP said in a tweet Friday.
An initial alert from USCP warned of an “external security threat” at the Capitol and an announcement made over the PA system at the complex told everyone to stay indoors and away from windows.
CNN’s Lauren Fox reports seeing ambulances and a helicopter outside the building. One person was seen on a stretcher.

Esquire… Don’t Let John Boehner Rewrite History

If there’s any evidence that John Boehner tried to arrest the prion disease before it took over his caucus, and then his entire political party, it was not evident in his performance as Speaker. The man was positively hysterical in his opposition to the Affordable Care Act.”

“That he bailed out before the maniacs took full control is a tribute to his survival instinct, not his political integrity. He got run over by forces from which he and his party had been profiting, and which got out of the lab because he wasn’t strong enough, or willing enough, to stop it.”

And of course, these sort of MSM thumbsuckers tend to obfuscate the main point: that for Congressional Republicans, “working with them” is usually defined as “give us everything we want”, “give us veto power over every piece of legislation”, “do not expect us to compromise in the least bit over the least thing” - and of course, “don’t ever be too ‘partisan’ by ever criticizing us” .

And Joe, to his credit, ain’t having any of it….

Another victim of Trump.

Until I hear more details, I can’t agree. Anyone who comes with a knife charging at the police officers at the Capitol less than 3 months after an attempted coup, was someone who really should have been under the care of a mental health professional. Presumably held in an actual psychiatric ward, rather than being treated as an outpatient.

But the actual facts will take some time to be known, as opposed to the scattered often incorrect reports that accompany initial reporting. He might have been a Trumpist, but if not, there are other places where he could have done the same, and met the same sad end.

It seems to me that today’s Capitol Hill attack is another example of the predicted rise in stochastic/random violence.

We are facing a lot of stressors right now, economic, social, political, religious and pandemic. Lots of folks are having trouble handling them. And some number are reacting, sometimes violently, in response.

I believe that a significant number of these stressors were either deliberately created by, or exacerbated by Trump and McConnell, and their cronies for personal gain.

(eta to clarify added ‘stressors’ in final para.)

Repugs are posting a photo of a young black man in civilian clothes being loaded into an ambulance, and demanding an apology from members of Congress who jumped to the conclusion that the attacker was a white supremacist.
Three points:
-The racists are hedging and using weasel words about the source of the photo.
-No member, to the best knowledge, has characterized the attacker specifically as a white supremacist.
-Gangs like the Oath-Keepers constantly boast about the diversity of their membership, and there are in fact a handful of African American members.

This is really amazeballs: Michigan legalized recreational marijuana back in 2018 (they have had medicinal marijuana way before that.) Now, a very popular travel destination has over a dozen medical dispensaries (for a population that really can’t support that many) - but no recreational dispensaries. And it’s become a real hairball which will probably lead to the closure of many of the medical dispensaries.

Your story also reminds me of one Christmas pre-pandemic, when I was connected to my tower at home from my parents’ house. Suddenly, it stopped responding to ssh commands. I assumed it had rebooted, waited for it to come back up… nothing, after several minutes. I assumed it was a software error and I’d deal with it when I got home. I got home and went downstairs into the basement, and it was eerily quiet. I knew something really wasn’t up. I pulled out the box, opened it, and the fan on the motherboard that cooled the chipset was frozen and the board was toast.

Whataboutism

Senator Rubio does have a point, though of course, he doesn’t explain the real reason for their behaivor.

The MLB, like all businesses is profit motivated. If it’s profitable to boycott racists, they’ll do so. If it’s profitable to support ethnic cleansers, they’ll do so too. Unless there’s a massive disincentive (they’ll lose deals, multi-billions, or go to jail), businesses will keep on dealing with unsavory individuals and groups.

The police released his name and home state I don’t think they are trying to hide his identity.

I am guessing the trunk popped open in the collision and they don’t want to tamper with it until the investigators get through with the crime scene.

For all the talk about the more outrageous aspects of this law - closing polls early, prohibitions on food and water to people waiting in line, Rachel Maddow has said the worst provision of this law is what I highlighted above.

All of the copycat laws going through legislatures all have this. It effectively gives legislatures a veto over the popular vote, and effectively neuters democracy.

The claim is that the legislatures are “chosen by the people,” so they should have the right to represent the people. But that’s incorrect in a world where gerrymandering exists. It is increasingly improbable that a state legislature represents its people anymore.

So far we have no reliable report that the women involved were underage..

It’s probably best to wait….but one of Gaetz’s acquantainces has already been indicted on child sex trafficking charges:

They are purported to show that Gaetz (R-Fla.) was with Joel Greenberg, a Seminole County tax official who’s under investigation for child sex trafficking, at the office he allegedly used to make fake IDs, the Daily Beast reported.

Prosecutors state in Greenberg’s indictment that he used his position as an elected official to look up information about a girl between the ages of 14 and 17 in order “to produce a false identification document and to facilitate his efforts to engage in commercial sex acts,” the Sentinel reported.

So……yeah. It sounds bad.

Though of course I also thought Trump was going to have been prosecuted by now, so what do I know.
