“OFFICAL CARD”

I have many OFFICAL cards in my possession.
I use them when I visit the town of Burn Barrel in Dead Deer County.

Maybe it’s like the 419 scammers. They don’t want anyone with an IQ over room temperature taking up their time, so the approach is stupid to only reach stupid people.

I posted this week’s pond update through linux.

I’ve been in linux for most of today.
Granted a lot of my work is done through chrome so there is a lot of familiarity.
Still, I’ve learned where things go and how to find them, and managed a full, if not slow, day’s work.

The biggest kink so far is the scanner. my temporary solution is to connect the scanner to the windows 8 / tax laptop for now, let it auto save to gdrive which i can access from the linux file manager. almost all other behaviors we take for granted i can work out as I go.

For instance i had every program set up to default print to pdfcreator which then automatically opened foxit reader, then cleaned up the temporary files after itself. every program flowed the same way so i didnt have to think where i was - just ctrl/p and enter.

it’s true that most programs print to pdf but that means slightly different dialogs and keypress rememberings.

there is no linux pdfcreator so i have to find a substitute that’ll do the same thing automatically. not a big deal, just gotta figure it out.

We can laugh, but as little as 5 years ago a JD Vance candidate would have been plausible in OH on the GQP ticket. Now? Now he’s running for the nomination in a party where the main qualification for office is how far up Orange Julius’ ass you are.

It means they “win” the argument by using the card, when the person trying to straighten them out looks like this.

Realistically, it’s appealing to those MAGAts who are getting all sorts of shit heaped on them everytime they go out in public wearing prominent symbols of their fealty to the Bloated One. So now they can carry these little cards around and flash them like they’re members of a secret club.

Covid update from a previous thread. The staff member who we were worried brought Covid into my wife’s house tested negative and appears to just have a cold. Hopefully that’s all she has as well, but we should know tomorrow morning. It was easy to get the test, and there’s plenty of vaccine available in the County, but these right wing dickholes refuse to take it. The city we live in and the one I work for are well over 70%, but the overall County rate is below 50%.

According to my daughter, all sorts of respiratory viruses are back with a vengeance. They’re pulling their toddler out of daycare for a few weeks because of the Covid surge, but the aforementioned toddler had 2 colds in 3 weeks in July. And that’s with everyone being careful about symptomatic kids in the daycare.

re: #27 Backwoods_Sleuth

This is truly driving me berserk. Not this guy specifically (I don’t know who he is), but the resistance to the plague vax.

In short:

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy????

Let’s leave aside the lunatics who think the vax has some sort of microchip that’s supposed to do “Bob” knows what, or that it will make them magnetic, or whatever the fuck hallucination was barfed onto the Facebook page of a tragically undermedicated free-range schizophrenic. What is the objection?

Is it just because people are being told they really ought to get the vax and they’re having a toddler’s reaction to being told to eat some vegetables? REALLY????

Everyone, or at least everyone over A Certain Age, knows the name Jonas Salk. They know who he was, what he did, and why he is world-famous and mentioned in history books (despite having 0 followers on Instagram). His vax against polio was rightly seen as one of the great triumphs of science and medicine. He and his team contributed to the eradication of a horrible disease.

COVID is still so new that we don’t have much of an idea of what the long-term implications of it will be. Will even asymptomatic carriers suddenly have weird health consequences later in life, the way shingles is sometimes the result of childhood chicken pox? We have NO FRIGGIN IDEA.

I just can’t understand it. If one doesn’t have a (real, not imaginary) condition that precludes getting a vax, WHY THE HELL WOULDN’T YOU WANT TO PROTECT YOURSELF?

My wife is good about wearing a mask while at work, but I’m not sure about her staff. The company “encourages”, but does not require them. Either way, she picked up something. I don’t seem to have gotten it though, go figure.

Masks are probably less effective with colds because they are spread by touch far more than covid is. Anyway, hope you stay well, and she just has a cold.

When you take the lunatic out of the equation, there are a lot of ignorant people who think because the vaccines are not FDA approved and have an emergency use authorization that they are “experimental” and were rushed to production and therefore we don’t know what the side effects are. (Ignoring the 15 years of mRNA vaccine research with SARS and MERS, and the over 100k people who were involved in the trials for just Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J for several months.)

I’ve heard, but don’t have a specific source, that before the delta surge got real, 40% of the people not vaccinated said they would if it got full FDA approval.

I’d sent my 4K projector to Asurion to have the DMD replaced it. They opened it, closed it back up, then lied about fixing it, claiming they “cleaned” the part that needs to be replaced. They did add some bonus part that’s rattling around.

Now I have to ship it back. This was after the manufacturer screwed me saying the seller I bought it from on Amazon was not authorized so the warranty is void. People aggravate me.

I hate to say it but this has been going on for years in Philly. The PPA has the authority to write the tickets and tow cars to impoundment lots. If these cars are not claimed by their owners they are then sold in auctions run by the PPA.

Which is true in most cities. The problem is the police moving cars from LEGAL parking spots to ILLEGAL ones and then siccing the PPA on the drivers.

I’m reasonably sure that LAPD looks for out of town cars and gives tickets to them regardless of whether you are parked illegally or not.

I’ve gotten 2 parking tickets in LA for parking legally. Both times, the ticket cost about the same as the gas I would waste driving back to LA to fight it so I just paid them.

Unfortunately that does happen when the police have warned a neighborhood that all cars have to be cleared from the street for construction or an event. Usually it is 2-3 days warning and then the cars are moved to another location. Most of the time it is around the corner.

re: #61 teleskiguy

My entry point was “The Man from Utopia”, a less-popular album that I still love dearly. The reason I bought it was because I was getting severely into guitar idols of the early 80s, and this name “Steve Vai” kept popping up. That was supposed to be one of the albums where you could hear Vai playing guitar idol stuff. It was not what I was expecting, but I was blown away — not just by the guitar, but by the rest of it. I was already a fan of DEVO, but although I was primed for it I had never heard anything like “Moggio” or “The Radio is Broken”. You have to also keep in mind that I was about 12 years old. I was living in a shitty little village in Texas where it was hard to get records other than the biggest-selling stuff of the day, so my only opportunities to explore music I read about in magazines were the occasional family trips to the bustling metropolis of Amarillo, a few hours away.

I think my next FZ album was “Mothers of Prevention”, which I bought specifically the song “Porn Wars”. I was very closely following the PMRC shenanigans at the time, and “Porn Wars” was said to be a send-up of Zappa’s congressional testimony about record ratings. But I fell in love with the whole album. I still like his Synclavier material slightly better than everything else.

Anyway, after those two gateway drugs I decided I needed to go back to the beginning and listen to all his stuff in order. It took years but that’s what I did.

But, ultimately, who gives a fuck anyway?

Virginia Foxx, in her grief standing strong against weekends, eight hour days, and a living wage.

And her statement today probably doesn’t even make her top 5 hideous statements over the years. I’d put this one at #1:

In April 2009, Foxx expressed opposition to the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, claiming that Matthew Shepard’s murder was not a hate crime. While debating the act in the House, she called the murder a “very unfortunate incident” but claimed “we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn’t because he was gay.” She ultimately called that allegation “a hoax that continues to be used as an excuse for passing hate crimes bills.”

Matthew’s mother was there when she said it.

Last year with the masking and social distancing we absolutely crushed other viruses like the flu, so there is a good chance they will be back with a vengeance this year because not many people have natural immunity from having gotten them last year.

“The odds are I won’t get it”
“If I do get it the odds are ill survive”

They don’t get that survive means not die. A pitifully low bar

And they are being given bad information by the people they trust. They actually believe the vaccine is a greater threat to their health than the virus, and they don’t learn the truth until they or a loved one is fighting for their lives in the hospital.

re: #110 Dangerman

My friend who was hospitalized, but didn’t feel too bad once he was in a hospital bed, has brain damage and low energy. This virus is brutal, and people who never faced a real threat before and were able to become narcissistic, defining their own world, are killing people now that this threat is here and they’re just lying to themselves about it instead of responding to the threat.

A zombie movie that has idiots running up to the zombies and licking them to create social media content would be totally believable now.

Maybe I we have been giving them too much credit. The general gist of that has been that the GQP leaders cannot possibly be as stupid as they seem, and are simply manipulating their moronic followers to some nefarious, though clever, end. This is similar to the thinking about Adolph Hitler before 1934: He wasn’t truthfully a rabid anti-semite, he was just playing one to keep his mob riled up. Well, he really, truly, was a rabid antisemite, and the Repug leaders really, truly are dumber than a box of rocks.

I’m not a billionaire football team owner, or even a millionaire head coach. But if I had a player who refused to take basic safety precautions, thus putting himself and the outcome of games at risk if he gets sick, and even worse, putting his teammates at risk, that guy wouldn’t play, and wouldn’t be employed. Looking after yourself is part of your job as a high-level sportsman, particularly as a member of a team.

Imagine if he didn’t want to wear a helmet, and just said, ‘I’ll dive instead of taking a hit, because I think it infringes on my freedoms to cover my face.’ Imagine that dude even staying in the building after making that statement.

Still going strong.

That view is northwards, from a low camera (which is on the hill on which helicopters used to land.) The cameras showing the bigger picture and the flow into Meradalir are all blocked by clouds. It’s been a very dreary summer in Iceland.

The Crackhead Mike Follies continue unabated…

CNN reporter Drew Griffin asked MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell to hand over his purportedly bombshell voter fraud evidence — and he came away thinking that Lindell simply had no idea how voting works.

“The odds are I won’t get it”
“If I do get it the odds are ill survive”

They don’t get that survive means not die. A pitifully low bar

And odds are there will be permanent long term health problems.

They don’t get what the risks are or how to evaluate them

A Trumpster FB friend asserted that
>> the vaccine was developed too quickly using experimental technology and there aren’t long term results to determine whether it’s safe.
>> In any case the mRNA vaccines won’t prevent you from getting the disease and passing it on to others so why take the chance on unproven technology.
>> J&J has too many side effects and is like to be pulled
>>and as for Novavax, it again would be released too quickly, without really long term results.
>> he and his wife have prescriptions for medications (didn’t identify which) that could help alleviate symptoms if they came down with the disease.
>> it’s a free country, at least for now.

Repug/Conservative stupidity has now reached a stage analogous to tertiary syphilis. It will end fairly soon, but we are likely to see some insane and potentially dangerous behavior in the meantime.

This is a heck of an article, and it nails a lot of this down to the Bradley Foundation and, I’m sorry to say, Shiplord Kirel, to Cleta Mitchell. She comes across as extremely influential in all of the voting suppression and election laws being passed by Republican states now. Started out as a Democrat, and now way off the deep end at the other end of the pool.

Cleta Mitchell? Wasn’t it obvious based on stories about her role, which first came to light in the Raffensperger call, that she was a major player in stoking Trump’s delusion and the “Stop the Steal” campaign?

Dangerman  Aug 5, 2021 • 7:35:14pm

So take just this:

the vaccine was developed too quickly using experimental technology and there aren’t long term results to determine whether it’s safe

What is too quickly and why does that matter
What is experimental technology and why is that necessarily bad
Why default to it is unsafe as opposed to safe

Detailed answers supported with verifiable references
Otherwise it’s just “i don’t wanna”

And note more and more expert thinking is within a year or so everyone not vaccinated will get covid.

#GovernorWho trends nationally after Biden brushes off Ron DeSantis’ tantrums”

“President Joe Biden has traded barbs all week with DeSantis who has now become known as “DeathSantis” on Twitter. DeSantis is falsely claiming that Biden is allowing immigrants with COVID-19 to cross the border in Texas and make their way to Florida with the virus.”

“When reporters asked Biden about DeSantis’ comments on Thursday, he smirked and said, “Governor who?” The short, two-word comment exploded online, with activists encouraging the phrase to trend on Twitter as mockery of the Florida governor

I tried to order a new dishwasher from Lowe’s - when you call the local store they don’t pick up the phone. When an online order got botched, they said a dishwasher was in stock (it wasn’t) - worse still was this wasn’t communicated to the installer, who went to the store and tried to pick up the dishwasher, and was turned away because the dishwasher wasn’t there to pick up. Way to go, Lowes.

I know the thread is dead. I had a Costco gift order show up as “refunded”. It seems it never left UPS, or maybe never arrived at UPS.
There are a lot of “take for granted” logistics elements that are screwed up AF. With CV19 continuing to run rampant who knows when, or if, things will get back to normal.
