So the key for my X5 stopped opening the doors…and while it still started the car if in the ignition, because it wasn’t ‘connecting’ things like auto-door lock stopped working. Basically left my car unlocked for the last three months or so…well, today I was going to the office, which meant giving my car to the valet. I considered going to Ace to have them code a new key for me, but I looked at their website and BMW isn’t a supported manufacturer. That sent me to youTube where I saw someone open a different styled remote key.

So this morning I examined the thing, noticed a small slot in it, slipped a little eyeglass screwdriver in, and the back popped off and out popped the dead CR2032 battery - which I happened to have extras of in a drawer. Two minutes later, I have a fully functioning remote key.

It’s accomplishments like this that really make me feel like a man sometimes.

BTW, props to whoever used The Valley Of Gwangi as the header illustration: it’s always been one of my favorite bad horror/sci-fi flicks. I’m glad I check my bank accounts every day. I just found nearly $500 in fraudulent charges on one of them, all placed in the last 6 hours. About 200 of this was to a golf store, and some to a tool store. I have never heard of either one. I called the bank (no easy task after hours on a holiday) and killed the card. The charges were still pending so the crooks didn’t actually get anything. I have to get a new debit card though. I don’t keep a lot of dough in checking accounts for just this reason.

Belarus’s Lukashenko warns Europe: Sanction us again and we could cut gas supply

MOSCOW — Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko opened another potential front against Europe on Thursday, threatening to choke off gas supplies amid a deepening crisis that has brought migrants surging to E.U. borders and Western leaders planning to retaliate with more sanctions.
Lukashenko’s warning jolted energy markets and further suggested his authoritarian regime still had the backing of its key ally Russia, whose natural gas pipelines — including one crossing Belarus — are critical for European supplies.
It is also Russian President Vladimir Putin who would decide whether Lukashenko could follow through with threats to turn off the Belarus pipeline, which supplies about 20 percent of Europe’s Russian gas, according to analysts. So far, Russia has insisted it has no part in Lukashenko’s growing feud even as it declines to rein him in.

Why the Nazis Are Treating Their Trial in Charlottesville Like a Joke

Most people are not comfortable with material that comes across as vitriolic, raging, nonironic hatred. The unindoctrinated should not be able to tell if we are joking or not. There should also be a conscious awareness of mocking stereotypes of hateful racists. I usually think of this as self-deprecating humor - I am a racist making fun of stereotype of racists, because I don’t take myself super-seriously. This is obviously a ploy and I actually do want to gas kikes. But that’s neither here nor there.

Biomarker Discovered That Predicts Type 2 Diabetes Many Years Before Diagnosis

“We found that higher levels of the protein follistatin circulating in the blood predict type 2 diabetes up to nineteen years before the onset of the disease, regardless of other known risk factors, such as age, body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose levels, diet or physical activity,” says Dr. Yang De Marinis, associate professor at Lund University and lead author of the study.

This discovery is based on studies that followed 5,318 people over the course of 4 to 19 years in two different locations in Sweden and Finland.

Follistatin is a protein that is mainly secreted from the liver and involved in the regulation of metabolism. The study investigated what happens to the body when follistatin in the blood circulation becomes too high. Using clinical data from the German Tübingen Diabetes Family Study and cell biology investigation, the researchers found that follistatin promotes fat breakdown from the adipose tissue, resulting in increased lipid accumulation in the liver. This in turn increases the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes.

Why the Nazis Are Treating Their Trial in Charlottesville Like a Joke

One thing I’ve learned about this trial is that it’s not a joke. To wit:

In one case, a defendant asked a plaintiff to name friends who were with him during the rally and counterprotest. Since the plaintiff was part of the group that filed the suit, the federal judge said the defendants had the right to know the information.

Segal said the tactic amounts to real-time doxing, or releasing private information with malicious intent: “Whenever there are names of people out there it provides an opportunity to pile on them.”

What this doesn’t mention is that the friends of the Nazis then proceeded to dox this guy’s friends at the rally, practically in the very next moment.

I will admit that the Rittenhouse trial has reminded me yet again that there’s always a possibility I could get assaulted or worse while protesting. Which is why I wear a GoPro.

A Mom Anon  Nov 11, 2021 • 6:48:46pm

Good Evening Lizards.

I get my booster shot and a flu shot tomorrow morning. I hope the side effects are minimal, I had body aches and chills for about a day and a half after my two previous Pfizer shots, and this is my first flu shot. ( I know, but I have never had a serious bout of flu, now I will get shots yearly) This makes me happy, even if I am a tad apprehensive.

My son has had a bad cold/flu(we hope. He’s going for a covid test before noon tomorrow. The home test we did yesterday was negative, but we’re being sure)since Tuesday. He’s been off work since Wednesday with nasal congestion, a bit of a cough, and a fever that has shot up to almost 103 at one point. He’s been fully vaccinated and still has an appetite and can taste things. He’s been quarantined in his room til today for a bit, I disinfected his room and bathroom today while the husband was at a doctors appointment, and then hit the whole house with Lysol and a thorough cleaning. His temp has been below 100 since this morning with no NSAIDS, and says he’s feeling lots better. He’s supposed to travel with friends this weekend(road trip to Nashville for a two night metal show to celebrate his best friend’s birthday )he’s got a lot of non refundable money sunk into the trip, so if he listens to his Mom, he should be able to manage it ok as long as he stays the fuck away from the pit and hangs out in the balcony at the venue. And takes the meds and does the things he can to protect himself and his buddies. Of course I am totally worried.

Hope your son is better soon.

As to vaccine reactions, I got the stronger “old people” flu vaccine a few weeks ago and had something of a reaction-tired, achy for 24 hours. My first 2 Moderna shots I had significant reactions, the booster I had hardly any (slightly sore arm.) It seems to be random from people I’ve talked to. Good luck.

re: #96 A Mom Anon

For reference: I had my booster last week. I had the Johnson & Johnson single shot, so I was due for a booster months ago, and got one as soon as all the paperwork was approved. My side effects were about the same as my initial shot. I had a dead arm and was very tired/had chills for most of the day after. The second day following, I was pretty much back to normal, 100%. YMMV.

I do, I don’t have that tweet on hand sadly, but I know what you’re talking about. The actual woman in question reached out to the poor lady afterward, I believe?

But yeah, as I’ve seen saying, it’s one of many data points showing that the Proud Boys just essentially run Portland with the help of the Portland PD.
