Bruce Hornsby: “Shit’s Crazy Out Here”

Music • Views: 18,875

YouTube

I’m happy to report that I was wrong when I said the previous Hornsby video was probably the last in this batch of great live songs.

Rolling into Number Seven in our series of performances from Bruce’s Deep South Solo Tour with a track that could easily pass as a metaphor for our crazy world- “Shit’s Crazy Out Here”. Imagine Arnold Schoenberg and Elliott Carter meet The Beatles at the Boo Williams Sportsplex for some highest-level Darwinian AAU Basketball.

CL’d on last thread:

re: #337 piratedan

i’m not sure it was progressives per se, but more that the GOP pushed Youngkin as a moderate and effectively played the fear card regarding CRT in schools with surburban moms…. That ate away the margins in metro areas and allowed Youngkin to win. Whoever ran the Dem campaign did not do an effective job translating GOP=Trump, no matter the packaging or explaining how CRT wasn’t a thing, just the latest in a long line of fear levers to be used by the GOP.

Not to mention that, on the “education” issue, McAuliffe torpedoed his own campaign with an astonishing gaffe about how parents shouldn’t have input into their kids’ curricula. Misconstrued, to be sure (since we know that it is usually the most ideologically-extreme parents that have outsize influence on local schools), but obvious enough to, apparently, tip the scales just enough to lose.

It seems to me that McAuliffe indeed got out-maneuvered. I am not sure how much was real outrage and how much was purchased theater.

It also seems to me that the GQP brought in a lot of money and national personnel to get Youngkin elected. Youngkin is, at least, a multi-millionaire and has a lot of wealthy and well-connected friends from the Carlyle Group.

Interestingly, a lot of the culture war theater effort was put into Loudoun County. And yet Loudoun County stayed blue.

The media played a big role in it too, continually describing Youngkin as a “moderate Republican” when he is ANYTHING BUT.

Apparently, Progressives couldn’t bring themselves to vote for McAuliffe so here we are. Good luck, Virginians. You’re going to need it.

Whether it was Progs per se or not…

Too many leaning D’s don’t vote
Those who “wont” hope things get worse so the d’s will run someone “better” next time

Politics doesn’t work anything like that

re: #2 ckkatz

This is a very good example in favor of a personal wealth cap. If you have money for this level of just plain waste(of land, materials and labor) then you have money to pay a lot more taxes and to give half of it to your community so no one is homeless or hungry. Oh, and big surprise, his personal life is a shitshow, how is that possible?

I am to the point that I believe, with perhaps a few exceptions, that having a ton of money leads to becoming sociopathic. At the very least.

36
ckkatz  Jan 16, 2022 • 11:32:45am

Welp… It begins here in Fairfax County…

I looked out and realized that it was snowing and that the ground was already covered. So I dashed out in shorts and sandals to rescue my Sunday paper. (I should have got it sooner. But was having too much fun here on lgf.)

And as soon as I got back to the computer, the first County emergency message comes in about a road closure due to vehicle accident.

Yup, the twelve hour weather event that Fairfax County people have been obsessing about since Tuesday, has begun. :/

Cleo was not happy with the snow this morning. It’s supposedly our first measurable snow in almost 1500 days.

re: #40 ckkatz

We have a house down the road from us that was built on land that belonged to the house next to it. The old house still has the original owners living there, it was built in the 1960s, on maybe 5 acres. They sold off most of their land to some rich couple with no kids who built some big and hideous sort of stone castle like thing that is around 10K square feet.

This has happened a LOT around here over the last 10 yrs or so. But it’s usually not big mansions being built, it’s 55 and older communities with big ass houses (2.5-3K sq feet)that start at 500K and go up from there. We went through the big house subdivision home boom back in the early 2000s before the crash. Now it’s these 55 and older places.

Our house was built in 1978. On about 3/4 of an acre that had been owned by the same family who had the land since before the civil war. Over the years they sold little pieces of it til they had about 20 acres left when we moved in in 1997. About 5 years ago they were offered 1.7 million dollars for all the land they had left. Everything was clear cut and leveled out to make one of those communities right next to my house and directly behind it. 60 houses where there had been 6, including the original cabin where the first of the family lived. We were never told a word about their plans, I didn’t know until the signs about a hearing for land use went up and surveyors were all over the place. They shut us and the neighbors on the opposite side out of things entirely. The developer is a rich sack of crap that lives in a big “rustic mansion” in n.ga. When we went to the hearings, the developer and his attorney were all chummy with the county commissioners and that’s when I knew what I had to say meant nothing. I hate people like this. No thinking long term except what they can have and keep. How they get it and who gets hurt means nothing. And yep I went off track, but god that shit pisses me off.

Arlington County is known as the most “Northern” (‘Yankee’ in the local dialect) and liberal county in Virginia. It is also one of the wealthiest, most urbanized and best educated counties in Virginia. I suspect that his goal is to show the base that he is “owning the libs”.

And, if he can break some public institutions so his wealthy clients and political donors can privatize them into a revenue stream, that is an added bonus.

He may have been thinking about the color of the RR overpass itself, which, as iirc, is green.

You are correct, the RR overpass is green. Unfortunately, the highway department is keeping the bridge clean of amusing phrases, now.

They ended up retracting Novak Djokovic’s visa for his anti-vax rhetoric, not for being unvaccinated

He also lied on his immigration form.

In my book Joe gets 90%. He is doing all he can but is being blocked by R’s in the House and Senate.

Amusing thread on Zillow listing:

[Embedded content]

The house I lived in from 1970 until I left home in 1975 is listed for sale on Zillow right now. The front entrance and kitchen have been vastly improved, but the other rooms are only slightly changed. When I look through the photos, all I see is ghosts.

He also lied on his immigration form.

But, that’s not what the government ended up successfully citing in withdrawing his visa

That is exactly how I felt, and how I described it, when I had to clean up and sell the family home after my parents passed away and everybody had moved out of Pittsburgh.

I’m frustrated too, but I don’t blame Biden.

I blame Manchin, Sinema, the GOP and our backwards ass media.

Webb telescope is 90% of the way to its destination.

The telescope has been coasting uphill towards L2 and slowly losing speed since the second Mid-Course Correction rocket burn (MCC-1b). Next biggie, and effectively the last mission-breaker operation is the final MCC-2 burn to insert it into the correct L2 halo orbit, due in about a week’s time. If that fails or goes badly wrong then the telescope may be unusable even after all the hard work.

The Mormon temple that you can see of the captal beltway is white, with gold spires. Or we’re you making a joke that I didn’t get?

Sorry, I misremembered. The temple is white. The graffiti was on a green-painted bridge.

Can we find a way to convince them that the Bundy Ranch is a combination Minuteman site and Antifa arms depot?
