Video: In Taped Testimony, Numerous Former Officials Say They Told Trump He Lost the Election Fairly

Politics • Views: 17,769

YouTube

Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., spoke on July 12 as the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack presented its findings to the public. The focus of the hearing was on extremist far-right groups like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers and the role they played in the Capitol insurrection.

She laid out a series of facts that pointed to the people who told former President Donald Trump he had lost the election fair and square. Taped testimony of former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, Trump’s daughter and advisor Ivanka Trump, and Pat Cipollone, former White House counsel, backed up these claims.

“Did I believe he should concede the election, at a point in time? Yes I did,” Cipollone said. “I believe [Republican] Leader [Mitch] McConnell went onto the floor of the Senate, I believe, in mid-December, and basically said the process is done. That would be in line with my thinking on these things.”
Murphy also played clips of former Attorney General Bill Barr, as well as former aide Cassidy Hutchinson, both of whom said they had told Trump the election was called and that it was time to move on.

In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.

Anyway, one thing that lept out at me in the following list is that Norway has the highest adoption rates for EVs. It is also a sizable petroleum exporter. Who would have thunk?

It’s for Korea:

“…BMW has gone all-in on feature subscriptions in South Korea. Available for purchase through an online digital hub called BMW ConnectedDrive Store, customers in South Korea will have to pay extra for even the simplest of features. Take heated seats: Customers can pay the equivalent of $18 a month, $176 for a year, $283 for 3 years, or $406 for permanent access. If you want a heated steering wheel, that’ll be extra: roughly $10 a month, $161 for three years, or $222 for unlimited. Permanent access to Apple CarPlay will cost South Korean customers just over $304, while enhanced engine sounds played through the stereo will be $137. Even driver safety assistance features will cost our friends in South Korea: High-beam-assist headlights, which automatically brighten or dim the headlights depending on traffic, will cost $8 a month, $84 for a year, $122 for three years or $183 for unlimited use.”

CNN just broadcast a clip of Sidney Powell’s testimony:

Pat Cipollone: You can name her whatever you want to name her and no one is going to pay any attention to it.

Trump response to Powell: You see what I deal with, I deal with this all the time.

This exchange is absolutely terrifying; it appears that the only reason the Trump administration was not even more catastrophic was that officials seem to have routinely ignored Trump’s demands. “Anonymous” basically suggested that in his original 2018 editorial but his book a year later warned that those controls were no longer in place. It does seem that a few restraints were still there but if Trump ever returned to office, our nation is doomed. Unfortunately the “more” competent Republicans eager to take his place are just as devoted to the destruction of our democracy. We are facing a nightmare as long as the modern GOP remains in existence.

For 60 years after WWII, American cultural hegemony ruled. Music, movies, TV shows, everybody everywhere was consuming American media and we were THE IT GIRL.

But South Korea, man… they’re still chowing down on appetizers, but they’re going to end up eating our lunch. Oscars, Billboard charts, streaming TV…

Plus of course their electronics industry.

This is not going to be a New American Century.

If the GOP takes over, we’re finished. But I recall feeling this way when Japan was eating our lunch, its stock market exploding, and then it came crashing down to earth. We may still manage to overcome our deficits; after all, as Winston Churchill famously (but never) said: “You can depend upon the Americans to do the right thing. But only after they have exhausted every other possibility.”

The writer of the blog Atheist Revolution (Jack Vance) seems to have stolen an idea from one the members here: Picketing churches which preach hate.

medium.com (Goes to Medium)

He weighs the pros and cons of picketing churches like Stedfast Baptist, which calls for executing LGBT+ people.

One of the cons is atheists who fear violent Christians. Earlier this year he recounted giving money to the Freedom from Religion Foundation, and they put him on their postal mailing list. He tried to get them to stop mailing him physical mail. One mailing was misdirected to another home, and he was outed. Then the death threats started rolling in, forcing him to move away to protect his family.

So he’s concerned about churches preaching hate, but is also concerned about the blowback if you try to picket them.

consider the distances involved in the Webb photo. When the sun was still a large swirling mass of hydrogen, with bits of population II star debris stuck into the maelstrom, the light Webb is now recording from the most distant of those galaxies (15 billion light years) was already two thirds of the way here. It took the entire life of our star for that light to make it the other third of the way.

Ms. Hutchinson’s name has not yet appeared on subpoenas and other court documents related to their investigation into the effort to overturn the 2020 election, and she did not seem to be a primary witness before the hearings.”

If DOJ was blindsided by Hutchinson testimony, wtf are they actually doing? Are we all operating on faith that DOJ is going to do anything about Trump?

Going back to even Watergate and Iran Contra, Congress and DOJ don’t always see eye to eye on how to handle criminal cases involving elected officials like the POTUS and his staffers.

This case is far more complex than Watergate and Iran Contra combined - and multiply that several times over. DOJ may want to keep some of the evidence close to them because they think it benefits their cases, while Congress has a political need to expose GOP crime spree.

DOJ needs to ramp up the prosecutions against members of Trumpworld and Congressional GOP. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Yes, of course there are fixes: import tariffs that roughly equal the cost of nations raising their environmental, health and safety standards, which will be removed one they reach a degree of parity with our own.

But that is not wat Globalization is about these days.

I do not mind the notion of competing on wages: that is our incentive to be more productive. But we have seen that US workers have massively increased productivity but have not seen a comparable increase in their wages/benefits.

For example, if a woman from a blue state goes on a trip to a red state and conceives while there, and subsequently has a miscarriage or an abortion, if she makes a subsequent trip to a red state she could be arrested on suspicion of trafficking an unborn person across state lines for the purpose of aborting it.

re: #8 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

Did someone earlier post about Bloomberg’s article on electric vehicles? I think I saw something like that.

Anyway, one thing that lept out at me in the following list is that Norway has the highest adoption rates for EVs. It is also a sizable petroleum exporter. Who would have thunk?

I’ve been driving a Bolt EV for nearly five years now. Even with the recall issues (which Chevy is making right), it is literally the only car I’ve ever enjoyed driving in nearly four decades of having a license.

It’s still a bit of a privilege thing to a degree; IMO, you need to be able to have access to a home charger 24/7 to really see the benefits, although I don’t think that’s a deal breaker. That said, the savings of gas vs. electric and the overall lack of emissions when driving are huge.

I’m glad to see this news, but in my experience, I still get people who easily could switch to an EV pulling the most ridiculous reasons out of their asses to not do it. It’s usually along the lines of even though their daily milage is like 50 miles tops, there’s the family vacation where they drive to Argentina three times a week that prevents them from switching.

I can’t remember what it was when I first came here to Czech Republic (June of 2001). I do, however, remember that $1 USD = 39 Kč, which meant the whole country was like a vast bargain basement sale. Family went to Japan to see in-laws for first time in many years due to fears of MIL’s failing health. It was very helpful that the dollar is so strong against the yen (sounds like a Bob Seger parody song). Anyway, one BIL has had some issues that forced him to quit work before retirement and to move in with her, so she is basically going to hand over the house there to him when she dies. She gave some money to wife but that caused a reverse conundrum. So she’s just going to bring it home and wait for the yen to strengthen someday (hopefully).

This was less of a problem in California, where I picketed most recently, but every single time I go out to protest now, I am acutely aware that people are armed and concealed carrying. Which is one reason why I wear a GoPro camera. Oh, and I have my holographic will in a zippered pocket of my purse. I know this sounds morbid, but when it comes to churches, people take this stuff very seriously and I have to take into consideration that I might get shot or worse (run over? why yes).

Actually exercising your First Amendment rights is not for the faint of heart.

ETA: Faithful Word Baptist, the parent of Stedfast Baptist, is very near to where I used to office before the pandemic. I would never protest there because (a) those people are MEAN and (b) I know they’re all armed. Oh, and there is no good freeway entrance at Southern and 101. I mean, if I’m going to risk getting shot, I’d really like the ambulance to be able to get onto a freeway quick, yanno?

this looks cool, but it’s frustrating. The Risk set up instructions indicate I can find my username in my profile through settings, but of course, I can’t actually find anything other than a log-in box and password box on the page, so kind of useless. I don’t have a password or username, so I can’t very well log-in.

n the 1990s, John Kevin Woodward was tried twice on charges that he had killed his roommate’s girlfriend, a three-sport athlete in high school and computer engineer who was found strangled in her car in Mountain View, Calif.

Now, more than 25 years later, prosecutors charged Mr. Woodward again with the 1992 murder of Laurie Houts, they said, after forensic technology linked him to the murder weapon, a rope.

It’s so wild to think that SCOTUS could pull off the coup that now has such dire legal consequences for Trump et al when they take up the NC case based on the “independent state legislature theory,” through which states could potentially ignore the voters and send what we’ve been calling “fake electors” in place of those who traditionally would have represented the will of the majority. It makes me sick to my stomach. Was Thomas the one who pushed to have the court consider it (joined, of course, by four others)?

Its starting already. US Border Patrol interrogating an Australian woman traveling to Canada, asking if she was pregnant or if she had recently had an abortion. Under His Eye.

This makes no sense. She is flying from Australia to Canada. So she has a layover in LA. She would not need to leave the airport. However if her layover is many hours and she decides to leave the airport then she has to go through customs. BUT SHE IS GOING INTO CALIFORNIA which is a state where abortion is legal.

You’re not wrong. Someone coming in the 5th inning up 3-0 and no outs with bases loaded and strikes out the side to hold a win for the team is doing more than the guy in the 9th with that 3 run lead and no one on base.

Mariano actually did both roles, and did come in for more than 1 inning in the postseason. He was *the* middleman setting up Wettland before assuming the mantle of closer. No pitcher was more consistent over a nearly 20 year career of dominating the competition in the role they had.

In my case, I am going to continue driving my 2013 Malibu until it dies on me; I have no interest in making the investment to get a new vehicle. When it actually does die (or get totaled — the fate of my past 2 vehicles — only one my fault), then I will consider the option.

re: #233 lawhawk

You’re not wrong. Someone coming in the 5th inning up 3-0 and no outs with bases loaded and strikes out the side to hold a win for the team is doing more than the guy in the 9th with that 3 run lead and no one on base.

Mariano actually did both roles, and did come in for more than 1 inning in the postseason. He was *the* middleman setting up Wettland before assuming the mantle of closer. No pitcher was more consistent over a nearly 20 year career of dominating the competition in the role they had.

One thing with the hold and save stats is that you need the opportunities to do it. Which is your offense creating runs and your starter allowing you to have a lead. And the Yankees being the Yankees in that period pretty much handed Rivera and their relief staff more of those opportunities than anyone else had.

The Supreme Court decision to overturn a half-century of settled legal precedent and erase a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion and her reproductive freedom has set states off on a race.

Unfortunately, we’re not all running in the same direction.

New Jersey is running forward, taking the opportunity to enshrine abortion rights and reproductive freedoms within our state laws. Others, such as Texas, are running backward and falling over themselves in the process of stripping women of their individual rights and freedoms.

Here’s my question about Dr. Biden’s taco comment.

Is San Antonio known for it’s diverse and yummy breakfast tacos? (the way lots of cities have a culinary identity)

If yes, she used a culinary reality of the city to make a broader point about the city.

If no, her speech writers need to check their use of racial/ethnic stereotypes (in a way that we all should be careful about these stereotypes). IIRC, the “taco trucks on every corner” was originally a GOP talking point about hoards of immigrants flooding the country (please someone correct me if I’m misremembering).

This broken little man thinks being a terrible lover is something to be proud of, and that being gay or bi will cause people to judge you, so should be kept quiet.

In the hyper-masculine right-wing internet community known as the “manosphere,” few figures loom larger than Jesse Lee Peterson.

The Los Angeles-based pastor and online radio host has become a star in conservative media in part for his demands that men and women return to his unorthodox version of traditional gender norms. Peterson’s ideas about gender can be eccentric even by the standards of his compatriots, with Peterson claiming that a woman who orgasms during sex is somehow “becoming a man,” a practice he frowns upon.

Peterson has also emerged as one of the right’s most vocal anti-gay figures. He’s claimed that people who march in gay pride parades are the children of Satan, and that “radical homosexuals are evil.” He’s become a regular sparring partner for progressive YouTube personalities, telling online commentator “Destiny” in 2020 that he didn’t understand why his debating partner was openly bisexual.

“I don’t understand the purpose of putting that out there,” Peterson said. “People are going to judge you, they’re going to look down on you.”

Now several of Peterson’s one-time friends allege that the pastor’s own personal life is rife with gay sexual relationships.

Two of Peter’s former male associates came out in June with on-the-record interviews saying they engaged in sexual activities with him, while other men say he propositioned them. These allegations about the pastor—who in public is staunchly heterosexual—have ripped like an earthquake through the manosphere, prompting some of Peterson’s allies to abandon him and prompting one manosphere conference to ban him.

Same fallacy that fighter and bomber pilots faced in WWII. If you saw only the planes returning and the gun damage from enemy action, you’d armor the spots where all the bullets hit, ignoring that it’s the spots that weren’t hit are what brought down a lot of the planes that didn’t make it back.

Armor those, and you improve the survivability.
