Video: President Biden’s Full Speech on Democracy

Since none of the broadcast news channels thought it was newsworthy enough to carry live, here’s the full speech Joe Biden gave last night.

President Biden delivered remarks on democracy in a speech from Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, PA. Included in his remarks:

“We must be honest with each other and with ourselves. Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic.”

“I believe America is at an inflection point. One of those moments that determine the shape of everything that’s to come after. And now, America must choose to move forward or to move backwards. To build a future or obsess about the past.”

“Tonight I’m asking our nation to come together, unite behind the single purpose of defending our democracy, regardless of your ideology.”

this sounds…important

“The Department of Veterans Affairs, for the first time in its history, will provide abortion services and counseling to veterans in cases of health dangers, rape and incest, even at federal facilities in states that have outlawed the procedure,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

My only quibble with this speech:

Now, I want to be very clear — (applause) — very clear up front: Not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans. Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology.

I know because I’ve been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.

I understand he has to keep the olive branch life boat open but the reality is the majority of GQP are fascist MAGA.

And the thing is, he got absolutely no credit for saying this. He might as well drop the olive branch, nobody is even aware it exists.

They did the same thing with Hillary’s statement about deplorables. My MIL was with us at dinner back when that deplorable hubbub was going on. She said she called all TFG’s supporters deplorable. I told her no, she called HALF of them deplorable. I also informed her that if she considers herself in that half it is her problem.

In deference to Biden and his ability to work with “mainstream” repugs, just how many votes in the senate and house have been taken with 100% of the GOP opposed. Nearly every one. Even votes for bills that would have gathered 50% or more GOP votes 40 years ago, were rejected. They’ve also demonstrated their loyalty to a man who would overthrow a national election to become dictator, supported the murder of his own VP, and expressed admiration for another dictator who has brought war to a neighbor without provocation.

They aren’t interested in working with the others side. No, they are working to make the other side fail completely, even at the expense of the citizens of this country. They are working to overthrowing 250 years of a way of life the rest of us cherish.

As I understand it, this is just considered stolen government property they want back, rather than a new document.

I think that this is different than a supposed secret ‘new’ pardon of Stone for ratfucking Macon currently being discussed by Marcy Wheeler. (Presumably to benefit Marine LePen.)

Roger Stone grant of clemency seized from Mar-a-Lago. What to know about pardon document.

The document that former President Donald Trump signed to commute the prison sentence of his friend Roger Stone was among the documents the FBI seized at Mar-a-Lago on Monday.

Hmm, sounds like the current career plan for the Russian officers is to try to endure until they reach colonel and start to get grafting opportunities.

There have been a number of discussions of the failures of Russian military medicine in Ukraine. Reassigning doctors as infantry officers would certainly be part of the cause.

Thanks for posting.

It’s a mystery to me how anyone thinks you can work with people who basically want you either dead or in perpetual misery for wanting to make sure we all have “frivolous” things like safe drinking water and living wages. You cannot nice your way out of this. It won’t work. They are no different than abusive partners in domestic violence situations. The only thing that stops them is force, that is not on the victims if it comes to that. These fuckweasels haven’t even come close to getting pay back for the damage they have and are doing. And they are in so many ways exactly like the perpetrators of domestic violence, the gaslighting, the outright lies, the wanting others to suffer and having the power to make it so, all of it. The only way that will stop is to smash the fuck out of it. And keep doing it. As much as it takes. Otherwise you die. Because that’s where it always leads, to people dying.

No one who says things like this is going to be welcome in Magaville.

“…What is the right’s “cause” at this point? What cause does the Republican Party presently serve? It has no meaningful policy agenda. It literally has no platform. The closest thing it has to a cause is justifying abuses of state power to own the libs and defending whatever Trump’s latest boorish or corrupt thought-fart happens to be. Imagine being a propagandist for a cause as impoverished as that. Many don’t need to imagine.

The GOP does have a cause. The cause is consolidating power. Overturn the rigged elections, purge the disloyal bureaucrats, smash the corrupt institutions that stand in the way. Give the leader a free hand. It’s plain as day to those who are willing to see where this is going, what the highest ambitions of this personality cult are. Those who support it without insisting on reform should at least stop pretending that they’re voting for anything else.”

Who’s Been Inside Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Office?

It is unclear when any of the documents retrieved on Aug. 8 were put in the office, but an ABC News review of more than a dozen social media posts appearing to capture Mar-a-Lago visits shows that guests within the last nine months include Kyle Rittenhouse, Roger Stone, and the South Korean president of a martial arts organization.

Others ABC News identified in social media posts between March 2021 and March 2022 as having visited Trump’s Mar-a-Lago office include Rep. Lance Gooden; the host of a program on conservative news outlet Real America’s Voice; and Alabama Secretary of State John Merril.

Earlier, Trump held a meeting in his Mar-a-Lago office with Lee Dong Seop, the president of Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters in South Korea

even without the top secret docs aspect, for an ex-prez, he can’t get any a-listers to come and visit. he just shows off mar-a-grifto to a bunch of losers.

Breaking down how USB4 goes where no USB standard has gone before
USB4 vs. Thunderbolt 4—and everything else to know about the newest USB standard.
arstechnica.com

USB4 unifies the USB and Intel Thunderbolt protocols for the first time, expanding USB’s capabilities while further dividing the technology into different performance classes. Adding features like dynamic bandwidth allocation ensures that USB4 is by far the most advanced USB generation. While there are PCs, docks, and cables supporting USB4, we’ve yet to see everything the protocol can do, like powering an eGPU without Intel branding.

With all that going on, we thought it would be a great time to put a spotlight on the latest and greatest generation of USB. We’ve whipped up a handy refresher for all things USB4, breaking down the various key aspects of the spec, from how it differs from other specs to protocol tunneling, Alt Mode, and power delivery.

Table of Contents to this follows.

President Biden plans to sign an executive order this month that could dramatically limit U.S. investments in China, Semafor reports.

Biden is also considering an order which would target services including TikTok by limiting how Chinese internet companies can collect data on U.S. citizens.

and that’s how bumper stickers are born:

re: #235 steve_davis

A normal (i.e., not a Tolkien fan) reviewer is going to go by what they’ve seen in the past on a streaming service.

“Boring” likely is just a word thrown out there to fill a void. The reality is that world-building is difficult and horror (jump scares, etc.) and romances (especially graphical depictions of sex) are what is now the norm on cable TV and streaming service.

Rings of Power is intended to be family viewing, I believe that age range is 10+. And that means no explicit sex and not much gore.

And to the contemporary American reviewer that means “boring” unless there is a witty/comedic dialogue delivered at such a high level that one is always smirking/laughing or at least find humor in the story.

The problem RoP now has is that it is none of those. It is very expository. And that gets one “boring” in reviews.
