Andrew McCarthy at NRO: Shameless
It’s been sad to see the collapse of National Review, now home to such great conservative intellekshuls as Jonah Goldberg. Andrew McCarthy is a useful case, because his status at NRO (and his complete lack of shame) reveals much about the modern conservative movement.
Just hours before the Times Square bomber entered a guilty plea, McCarthy posted a typical wingnut screed castigating the DOJ for their supposed failure to obtain a guilty plea.
In a lesser man, this would be the occasion for an update, an admission that one was wrong, and if possible, perhaps even a begrudging acknowledgment that the DOJ did something right. In a magazine or newsoutlet concerned with minimal accuracy, such minimal intellectual honesty would seem to be a prerequisite for employment.
Not in the age of ODS. Herewith a new post by McCarthy, reproduced in its entirety:
Reacting to the diatribe against America that Faisal Shahzad launched into at his guilty plea earlier this week, the NYPD commish said, “The threat from radical Islam shows no sign of receding.”
Apparently, he didn’t get the federal government’s memos about how we don’t say the I-word anymore and how our new relationship with the Muslim world is improving our security. Funny, Shahzad doesn’t seem to have gotten the memos either.
in Wingnuttia, even when you’re wrong you’re always right.
Reminder: despite NRO’s official editorial stance repudiating Birther fantasies, McCarthy remains head nirther over at NRO, even in the past linking to such reputable sources as Pam Geller, aka the Shrieking Harpy.
But going against the ‘official’ editorial stance there is not a bug but a feature. This way NRO can claim they don’t endorse nirtherism while continuing to push it into the mainstream. And that’s what it’s all about.
