Congratulations on your first page entry. From the link….

On 2 January the hacktivist group Anonymous announced ‘Operation Tunisia’ in solidarity with the protests in hacking a number of Tunisian state-run websites.[17] In a statement Anonymous announced that “The Tunisian governement wants to control the present with falsehoods and misinformation in order to impose the future by keeping the truth hidden from its citizens. We will not remain silent while this happens. Anonymous has heard the claim for freedom of the Tunisian people. Anonymous is willing to help the Tunisian people in this fight against opression.”[18]

I think Anon is trying to rehabilitate its image by actually targeting an oppressive government but it’s still a pretty pointless gesture. The government websites being down does nothing to help the people.

Thanks. I actually get the feeling they are Anarchists in every sense of the word. This explains much of their actions. The Scientology protests, this, the Wikileaks stuff, among other actions.

Even more so, I’m not sure if there’s some Islamist movement waiting in the background to take over if these protests do topple the local dictator.

Considering that Algeria is right next door, it wouldn’t be out of the question.
