I've had my 3GS jailbroken for years without stability issues. I'd compare a jailbroken phone to a regular PC... its possible to make it unstable (unlike a normal iphone) but its certainly possible to match the stability of the stock iPhone. All a matter of what you install.

Wouldn't suggest it for anyone but geeks and those who like tweaking their system but I've had good luck with it.

I'm fairly geeky in that I've never bought a (desktop) computer, I've always built & upgraded them myself, know how to set up my own home network, etc. but mobile devices are a whole other world as far as I'm concerned.

I don't doubt you can do it successfully if you know your way around, but...meh, I don't have the time or the patience to learn more new stuff. That, and I would start Jonesing really badly if I had to go without my beloved iPad for even one day.

Oh, and having to re-jailbreak every time a new version of the OS comes out? No thanks.

Being tech-ignorant allows me not to worry about stuff everyone else does.

I just figure why not get an Android if you're going to jailbreak Apple's gear

DON'T BUY APPLE IF YOU DON"T LIKE APPLE'S WALLED GARDEN ^_^

I built them enough to know that it's a miserable chore to me, and I'd rather pay someone else to build my rig and get a lifetime labor warranty :D

I can connect a new monitor, and that's about it. OTOH, I've written a few million lines of code in a couple different programming languages, and am proficient in several graphic applications. There's a real chasm of skills, there. A disconnect. Almost sad, really.

But when it comes to hardware, Mr. Heat builds everything. If and when it breaks, my hardware resources consist of refusing to do dishes, cook, or clean, until he fixes it or builds me a new one. I've been known to pitch broken shit out the window, for dramatic effect.

It took me a year to figure out how the camera on my cell phone works. I doubt I'll be jailbreaking anything.

I would say you shouldn't jailbreak your iToy because doing so is a fringe action that does nothing to drive from the marketplace devices that you buy but can't control. If you want what you've bought to be yours, reward the vendors who provide that.

the apple iMarket is a crazy evil wasteland anyways, I'm not sure 'safety' would be a concern either way (not that the Android market is better, but they don't pretend either).

WUB and I have a friend that works making apps now (actually 3 friends, but one relativley close one), and the stories coming out of there are nightmarish.

I have to admit that when my boss got me my MacBook Pro it was a REALLY nice change to just turn it on an go—no looking for tools, fighting with wires, getting scratched up by sharp metal parts, choking on dust bunnies, looking for misplaced screws, or shooing the cats away. ;o)

You? Do something for dramatic effect? Nah, I can't imagine such a thing when all your comments here are so introverted, almost timid. LOL

I can't even begin to imagine what things are like behind the scenes for the people who program the apps,

re: #11 CuriousLurker

Its mostly accounts of scams that apple allows.

'utilities' that do nothing, games that sell for having identical icons and copycat names to successful apps, outright copying of other peoples games/utilities, malware apps, you name it.

The best one is a 'cell phone locator' app... That tell you where you currently are, or maybe the 'defragmenter' that loads a screen saying 'defragmenting' and that's it >>

If enough people complain and apple looks like they're gonna do something, companies can make it go away by upping the share apple gets from sales..

~~~
Another interesting factoid: Apps whose titles start with the letter A get (I think he said) something like 40% higher sales.
