Defense of the Libyan Intervention, from a Liberal
Recently, I went to Huffington Post from I link on a comment here. Eventually, I managed to get to an article on the Libya intervention. Many of the comments on there disturbed me.
One of the most common comments that I saw is that the Libyan People must do this on their own. This made me rather angry, as I know that many of these people are Americans. In our own war of independence, we didn’t fight alone. Early in the war, Morocco helped with supplies for our fledgling nation. Later on, much of Europe became involved, with France, Spain and the Netherlands all joining the war, though Dutch involvement was more limited. So why would it been seen as okay to allow the Libyans to stand on their own against things they cannot counter, such as frigates, destroyers, and fighter jets? It seems very wrong to be so callous to the cries of others, especially when when is Liberal, which should mean that Human Rights are extremely important. To be put more bluntly: People who are telling the Libyans that they must suffer alone without aid, they are not Liberal. This goes for the little rat Kucinich as well. If any of you live in his district, try and primary him out. He does a disgrace to your city and state.
In addition, it should be pointed out that Qaddafi has been employing massively criminal means to try and regain control. For example, the previous allegation involving distribution of Viagra to his troops has proven to be true by the UN. In additoin, the city of Zliten is being threatened with mass rape as we speak. This in addition to his threats of mass murder, which include saying “‘those who don’t love me deserve to die” and referring to the rebels as rats.
Again, to those in Kucinich’s district: Primary him out. He only received a very bare majority of the votes in the last primary. A strong, not insane Democrat can win against him.
