Do Leftist Policies Enslave Entrepreneurs?
Recently, Florida Congressman (and self-avowed violator of The Geneva Convention) Allen West stated that entrepreneurship is enslaved by progessive government policies. This is Allen West we’re talking about here, so maybe he should just be ignored, but the war criminal is sharing an opinion that many conservatives also adhere to. Is he right? Does progressivism destroy the desire and ability to achieve?
Let’s look at probably one of the most socialist nations on Earth. Let’s look at Norway.
Rates of start-up creation here are among the highest in the developed world, and Norway has more entrepreneurs per capita than the United States, according to the latest report by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, a Boston-based research consortium.”
The same higher rate of entrepreneurship can be said for the rest of Scandinavia and similarly progressive Canada. Furthermore, let’s look at the German welfare state.
German population: 83 million
US population: 320 million
German exports:$1.3 trillion
US exports: $1.2 trillion
So basically, no. Allen West and an entire generation of Americans brought up on Reaganomics are completely wrong. Not only does investing in the welfare of your nation’s population not hurt development or strangle entrepreneurs, the case can actually be made that it spurs them.
I have more to say on this, and the article above contains some interesting facts on how other nations view taxes in general, but my lunch is over and this progressive has to get back to work for now.
