My sister moved to Tennessee a couple years back and is appalled by the level of ignorance and hatred constantly on display there. One of her neighbor’s only hobby seems to be sitting on his porch with his gun on his lap, glaring at passersby, hoping for something to give him an excuse to shoot someone. Assuming that a mop sink is evidence of the imposition of sharia law seems just like what you could expect from some cretin looking to be outraged by something.

It’s only a matter of time before Louie Gohmert or Batshit Crazy Bachmann introduces a law to ban mop sinks.

I’ve probably mentioned this here, but I was absolutely shocked to find a 9/11 memorial, towers flaming, in the middle of one of the more evangelical towns in the state. Considering how many Republicans think Obama is a Muslim, they probably think it is his fault, somehow.

Since I live pretty close to NYC, it’s pretty strange that anyone would want to be put up a enduring monument graphically depicting what most people in the area tried to get over years ago.

Reminded me why I pretty much dropped out of church after the attacks, although I imagine the smug cultural superiority and holy war connotations probably took a stronger form down there.

A goddam mop sink. What’s next… a hot air dryer is a Zoroastrian fire temple?

That’s just the point-they don’t want to get over it-and they don’t want anyone else to get over it either.

Keep outrage alive!

“Sought to reassure some concerned Lawmakers”? How reassuring that these twits are anywhere near where they make laws.
“Seems to be a device that strongly resembles a Muslim foot bath, although I could fall over a Muslim foot bath and not know it, but this looks suspicious enough that an investigation was headed up by Gump, our “On the floor” man and he reassures us that it is not a Creeping Form Of Sharia crawling up our collective paranoid asses, but a new fancy dangled mop bucket. Democracy is safe, now let’s get back to fucking it up.”

I wonder what they’d do if a bidet showed up in the public bathrooms? Clean their muskets because the French are invading?

How do you get to adulthood without knowing what a mop sink is? Sure, maybe somehow you might not have ever used one, but never to have even seen one and be able to recognize it? Very definitely a strong clue that these guys were all born with a silver spoon in their mouths, never served in the military, and never held a job that involved any kind of physical labor.

I know if I walked in that mens room the first thing I’d think is “Muslims”. / Very revealing. Now hand one of these diaper wearing paranoid douche nozzles a ball peen hammer and ask him just what it is called.

It’s typical wingnut BS. The Tenessee Legislature passed bills in the House (HB 2658) and Senate (SB 2641) in 2012, with the former being signed into law by Gov. Bill Haslam exactly one year ago today (PDF), which specifically allows the Ten Commandments and other “historically significant documents” to be placed in public buildings. IOW, they basically made an end run around the First Amendment by claiming it’s not about religion, it’s about history.

Previously, schools that displayed them had been forced to remove them, but now they’ve put them back. Of course, they also hang up copies of other “historical” documents next to them, as if that’s fooling anyone. I’ll give you three guesses—the first two don’t count—as to what would happen if someone proposed displaying a document or monument related to atheism or a non-Christian religion that’s also:

“…recognized to commemorate freedom and the rich history of Tennessee and the United States of America”

And then they freak out over a mop sink.

I was amazed that they don’t see the problem with a water splash area less than two feet from an electrical panel.

These are probably the same affluent but ignorant types who are buying up all the .22LR ammunition in the belief that Obama is going to ban it and start confiscating Crickett rifles.

Rich and stupid is more common than a lot of folks would suppose. It is no way to go through life. Throughout history, these have been the people who were most surprised when the ungrateful peasants rose up and ran them through with pitchforks.
