Seriously. I’ve been embarrassed by our state’s reaction to this issue. That poor uncle who got left with the shit job of having to get this guy’s body in the ground was shown no compassion by the people of Massachusetts. We suck.

Why is the word “bomber” in quotes in the headline?

I have the same question. Is there any reasonable doubt at this point?

Yeah, to be honest, the only people who write headlines like that tend to be the mouthbreathers who follow Alex Jones. Hope I’m wrong…

The right thing to do. Our rules against desecrating the dead do not come from any concern for dead terrorists, good riddance to them. Those rules come from our concern for ourselves, and our desire to continue the long, long journey up from savagery.

Once the Family disowned him, they should have cremated and flushed away this piece of shit at sea. P.C. Gone awry once again.

//// Let us respect his Religion.

CL, Sorry, this asshole doesn’t deserve a “decent” burial.

Heavy Metal had something along this line with , Capt Stern.

I paraphrase here. The best we can hope for is a quite burial in a undiclosed location so the grave is not desicrated.

End of program.

End of Line.

The people who scream the loudest about political correctness are usually the ones pissed off that they get called on their bigotry.

I’m guessing the quotes act in the same way the word alleged would in a longer headline.

re: #6 Bubblehead II

The burial isn’t about respect for him, its about the US not looking it doesn’t respect Islam. For Tsarnaev’s body to be cremated and his ashes scattered would be to provide Al Qaeda with more propaganda to use to convince young Muslim men that we are oppressing them.

Giving Tsarnaev a proper Islamic burial needs to be regarded in a COIN* context: To defeat terrorists and insurgents we need to separate them from the population, and respect for Islam as a religion is part of winning the respect needed to do so.

*: COIN = COunter INsurgency

“Religioiusn”?

You know, there’s nothing wrong with admitting English isn’t your first language.

It’s also the ethically correct decision.

The asshole is dead. He no longer exists. You cannot harm him in any way by doing things to his corpse.

Bubblehead’s post reminds me of the people trying to justify torture. We are supposed to be better than that.

With Enhanced Interrogation you can argue the point, though; In that case it is possible to argue that the value of the intelligence gained thereby is likely to outweigh moral and political costs incurred. Disrespecting someone’s corpse has no such defense. It’s purely a “Hurr, hurr, hurr” action, intend to show you hate the enemy.

Note: I’m saying the argument can be made. I’m not making that argument here.

Bullshit. Torture is torture and it doesn’t give us any valuable information. The argument cannot be made.

Bullshit. Everything is relative and any argument can be made. Personally I find it torture to have to watch Lost over and over (mostly it’s the stupid music) and most probably don’t agree. Most of us do agree (including myself) that water boarding is torture. Lot’s of people would also agree that solitary confinement is torture even though we use it in our own prison system.

Additionally torture can and has given us and anyone else using it valuable and completely useless information. When to use it and why are also relative. I’m a no torture guy but if some fucker had my daughter tied up somewhere and I caught him then torture would be a mild description of what I’d do to get the information.

Agreed but as Falcon is trying to demonstrate, doing things to his corpse can harm “us”. Deliberate misunderstanding is a fine art in this country and it pisses me off. No one is advocating love for said asshole.

Shiplord said it better and a lot earlier but I wanted to post my agreement.

Why not just call it torture? You’re not writing for the NY Times or the DoD.

We can either be honest, admit we’ve tortured, and then try to provide a coherent rationale. Or we can sit back and live in fantasyland, where if we call torture something else, then we didn’t do it.

Which is perfectly understandable (I’d do the same), but not particularly relevant here since you’re not a nation-state bound by treaties and international law.
