Dear President Obama,
Straight talk, the ACA bill you signed and never read is leaving millions of the poorest people without insurance through Medicaid and the ACA, this according to a front page New York Times article. The article is supported by the fact that some states did not expand the Medicaid program and the ACA did not make provision for this. The people who need the coverage the most have been left out in the cold again because you, Dog Track Harry and Queen Pelosi rushed the bill to passage.
You need to use a delay of the bill, a fix of the bill and national coverage of the bill to make a deal and stop the shutdown of government, the CR bill and the debt ceiling bill. You basically have left poor Americans out on a battlefield with no help in sight. The ACA was supposed to help the weakest first and you used them and discarded them. Now is the time to negotiate a new deal that will benefit every American equally.
Congress and the senate have to pass a CR bill for services promised to the people, but keep the government shut down till you all come to an agreement on the ACA. This is possible with the bills that congress is moving forward on the individual mandates.
There is no equitable foundation in the ACA with the exemptions, wavers and state exemptions. The most important part of the bill is that everyone must have health insurance, supported by the Supreme Court, has not provided the provisions to do that. Strip the bill and use the Medicare program as a model and use funding models from congress, the senate, the insurance industry, the hospital conglomerates and the five best business schools in the country. Seek the advice of doctors, nurses, medical billing agencies and the people and get the job done right.
This is a moment to show courage and trust from you, the congress and the senate. I suggested a civilian panel before to help maneuver the ACA to a successful and practical resolution. The time is now and the time is right.
