arpaio is this century’s example of what we were talking about last thread. those in positions of power, sanctioned by “the state”, suppress the innate rights of (some) people
the state and federal governments do not step in and squash this unequal treatment/behavior
While in law school, I would sometimes call myself a “Hamiltonian libertarian” when having deep discussions about politics and the law and matters of constitutionalism. Mostly because even then, I understood that most of the civil rights abuses in our past didn’t come from the federal government but from state and local governments. What happens at the local level always affects you more, even if you don’t pay much attention to it.
