Except the “everybody pulling their weight” thing is not born out by what we see in the larger context of the game.

If there was so much work to be done that women had to get involved doing them like in WW2 then you would not see people in Finkton having to attack each other over the chance for having ANY kind of job to do.

The misogyny is present somewhat, but nowhere to the degree that you would expect it to be I mean the “scientist is not a proper job for a lady” is something I could still expect to hear in some places today, not in a theocratic version of America in 1912!

One thing you have to also take into consideration is that Columbia has been, for better or worse, culturally isolated from the mainland US for a decade by the time Booker shows up. The argument could be made that societies can’t change all that much in a decade, but stop and consider how far the US has changed since 2002. For example, in 2002 the idea that the US would be a supreme court case away from legalizing gay marriage, that homosexuals could serve openly in the military, or that we’d have a black president might have seemed unreal.
