I mostly agree. OTOH, I got on a silent movie kick several months ago. Before 1932(?) we had no censorship board, and you had to be old enough to read if you wanted to see a silent movie. They had much more juicy content up to the late 20’s. It was remarkable what off color things were just fine and what other things they were unusually prudish about. Overall coarsness - about the same, the ‘symptoms’ vary over time. Very good example - Sign of The Cross - with lesbians taking milk baths, alligators vs. midgets vs. giants in the colluseum, and a very brief appearance of a (girl’s) nipple.
