The Presidential thing to do after the Yemen raid would have been for Trump to come out and say, “I made the decision to go. We worked on this with the best intel we had, and that turned out to have been insufficient. Military action always carries risks, but we work to reduce those risks as much as we can. But no matter how hard we try to do that, we can’t eliminate the risk CPO Owens gave his life in this operation. We will honor that sacrifice by doubling our efforts to minimize those risks, but ultimately, I made the decision to mount this operation, and bear the responsibility.”

Something like that. Something that simple, even I can dash it off in a few minutes. Totally beyond him.

And he didn’t even have to write this on his own. Didn’t anyone on his staff have the grace and wit to prepare such a statement? Maybe not… or maybe he refused to approve anything that might suggest something went awry in a mission he approved.
