With regard to prostate cancer, when they say “shouldn’t be treated,” they probably mean is it shouldn’t be treated if the patient is of advanced age. The theory being one needs die of something and the treatment may very well kill the patient.

No, there are some cancers that shouldn’t be treated because anything you do is worse than the slow growth of the tumor(s). “Watchful waiting” is the watchword in those cases.

But my friend had a very aggressive (thankfully rare) form that radical immediate radical prostatectomy. How would they have known without the test?

A researcher at Hopkins is today saying he can’t believe the anti-test paper was even published…
