I’m of the opinion that if they don’t want to become a state, we should offer them a severence package. We’ve screwed them over big time, but Trump and the GOP’s reaction to Maria should show everyone that being a territory isn’t helping, especially when Trump reinstates a rule that causes shipping fees to double to them.

I hear you, but as far as I know when reputable votes have been held, there’s never been a clear majority to either leave or for statehood (usually, retain current status is an option). The US would have to force the issue and that would mean having our shit enough together to pass a law in Congress forcing and arranging the vote and codifying a coherent exit strategy should the vote come down to leaving.
