I just wish people could see why something like that would bother people. Like I said, Herring and his friends seem to have been dressing as a very specific group of rappers. I think dying their face black was definitely in poor taste but I think it’s not as offensive if they had went as rappers and went as an exaggerated racial caricature of what a black rapper is. As for Asians or brunettes going blonde for Dolly, not a problem either, Dolly’s blonde hair is part of who she is.

Dolly’s blonde hair isn’t offensive because blonde is generally accepted as a good thing. If blondes were at the bottom of the pecking order, wearing a blonde wig would not be as innocent.
After all, I haven’t seen any serious efforts to get the Minnesota Vikings to change their name or mascot, whereas the various teams with Native American themes have been under fire for disrespect.

It is perfectly understandable why people get upset at these things, but it goes way deeper than no one wants to be made fun of. It’s that “punching up is better humor than punching down” thing again.
