Well thanks for the education! Though for some reason I seem to remember that Privateers (pirates) liked using sloops and the ones I’ve seen on the History channel were two masts, with the larger one behind the shorter one.
And is there a generally acceptable “length” between a boat and a ship?

Actually, in accordance with what was posted above I think the boat/ship is an issue of displacement.

Taller mast fore would be a Schooner
