I’m still a bit confused on the implications of the deal with Pelosi/Schumer - from what I understand, trump agreed to Harvey Relief and a debt-ceiling extension for 3 months. Meanwhile, GOPers were pushing a 6-to-18 month extension and…? I don’t get it. Why is the 3-month window better than the longer one? What else were GOPers trying to get?

The GOP wanted to push the debt ceiling out past midterms.

Edit: As for what the Democrats get, this separates disaster funding from the debt ceiling, but it puts it in the middle of Christmas and when government funding will be discussed. And the GOP in both chambers are going to need Democrats for those deals because too many of their own members are going to be against specific parts of any negotiation: “I want spending reduced!” “I want more money for my project!”.
