Dolly’s blonde hair isn’t offensive because blonde is generally accepted as a good thing. If blondes were at the bottom of the pecking order, wearing a blonde wig would not be as innocent.
After all, I haven’t seen any serious efforts to get the Minnesota Vikings to change their name or mascot, whereas the various teams with Native American themes have been under fire for disrespect.

It is perfectly understandable why people get upset at these things, but it goes way deeper than no one wants to be made fun of. It’s that “punching up is better humor than punching down” thing again.

That’s very true. TBH, I think one thing about the Washington Redskins that a lot of people don’t know is the history of that franchise. Their founding owner was perhaps the worst racist in American sports history. The Redskins integrated after Jackie Robinson had retired in the JFK years.
