It’s definitely not going to be an unifying event like Trump and his cronies are gonna want it to be. It was a reckless move that ignored the law and could start something far worse than whatever Soleimani would if he lived.

The “rally ‘round the flag” effect really only ever seems to work in US politics when an outside force acts to injure the nation. Generally that means either the a deliberate attack on the US or its interests or the US being forced into action in order to enforce international law (ex: UN Sec. Resolutions).

Blundering into a war because your ego was bruised and you needed something to make your balls feel big again tends to have the exact opposite effect.
