Ooo! Double qualifiers! Must be REALLY confident of your conclusion, there!

If I were China, I’d note that the incoming President is hoping to make money in Taiwan, and I’d note that this wasn’t a case of ‘Oops! the call came in and nobody knew to fob it off on a staffer!’, but rather that the call was ARRANGED by the staff, and I’d further note that the incoming US President is supposedly narrowing his SecState choices down to a list of people with widely varying views on the role of the US in the world, suggesting that the PEOTUS himself may not have a clearly-defined view, but has openly suggested that US allies might not be able to rely on US promises for their defense. I might think seriously about a number of moves to make to probe Trump’s willingness to defend people and places, to see what he really cares about.

China may simply decide that if the Trump administration is no longer going to pay even lip-service to the “One China Policy,” then they’ll just force the matter and see if Trump is prepared to engage in a shooting war with China over Taiwanese independence.
