As usual, it all depends on context. Is it a time of crisis? (See Ukrainian photos with flags). Is it the “in yo face”/”mindless” thing or is it the “true respect” thing? Etc.

I wonder how frequent the US flags are in the South btw.

I’ve seen many a US flag next to a Confederate flag in the south when I’ve had to be there. Makes me want to see the 1st Armor and 1st Infantry make a “commemorative” Road March from Atlanta to Savannah on November 15 to December 21, 2014 … ;)
