The Vicious Lies of Snowden Booster Jason Leopold

Thin-skinned and nasty
Weird • Views: 34,104

So last night on Twitter, this happened. “Investigative journalist” Jason Leopold, out of the blue, suddenly decided to attack, responding to this post without ever addressing the substance of it.

This Twitter collection is in reverse chronological order; I recommend scrolling all the way to the bottom and reading up, to get the full flavor of how the Snowden boosters roll.

It gets ugly fast.

I especially love how Leopold calls me “deluded” and a “fucking moron,” then says “don’t be a dick.”

These people are really not well.

Obama to nominate former Procter & Gamble CEO, Robert MacDonald to head VA

President Obama on Monday will nominate Bob McDonald, a West Point graduate who served as the chief executive of Procter & Gamble, to take over as head of the troubled Department of Veterans Affairs, according to White House officials.

The unorthodox pick of a retired corporate executive whose former company produces iconic household products such as Tide detergent and Charmin toilet paper — rather than a former military general — underscores the serious management problems facing the agency charged with serving more than 8 million veterans a year.

I hope he goes in there and kicks some ass.

52 lawhawk  Jun 29, 2014 3:20:59pm

Though to be a bit more serious about the ISIS claim of establishing a caliphate, one has to have a caliph that one would follow. Who is the one that anyone outside of ISIS true-believers would follow?

It also ignores that ISIS will barely be able to hold on to what territory they’ve claimed thus far.

As it is, the Iraqi government is continuing their pushback against ISIS advances, and it’s not likely that ISIS will be able to hold what they’ve taken.

ISIS is a spinoff to AQ, so they’re likely doing much the same thing that AQ wants to do, but isn’t on their own. Shared goals and aspirations, but I also sense there’s a whole lot of overreach in what ISIS is claiming/doing and what they’re able to do.

It also shows just how groups like AQ and ISIS can exploit failed and failing states.

re: #50 CuriousLurker

According to WIkipedia, Salon removed one of his articles back in 2002:

Salon article removal

In September 2002, following a two-week investigation, Salon removed from its website an article authored by Leopold about Army Secretary Thomas E. White’s role in the Enron collapse, due to questions about the validity of an e-mail and allegations that portions of the article had not been adequately credited to the Financial Times. The disputed e-mail was said to have been from White, telling the recipient to “Close a bigger deal to hide the loss.” According to Salon, Leopold’s article “used seven full paragraphs amounting to 480 words, virtually verbatim, from the FT. There were two attributions to the FT within the passage, but they appeared to apply only to the specific sentences that contained them, not to the full passage.” Leopold later admitted that he had been careless by not providing the FT with additional credit, but insisted that Salon’s editors had all the relevant documents, including the disputed White email, before the story was published. Paul Krugman of the New York Times, who wrote a piece based in part on Leopold’s work, also had to backpedal, acknowledging that he should not have cited the e-mail. […]

As it is, the Iraqi government is continuing their pushback against ISIS advances, and it’s not likely that ISIS will be able to hold what they’ve taken.

It’s also not something you just wave your magic wand and declare. You’re basically saying that you’re creating an Islamic state, therefore you’d need to be prepared to provide everything that implies—a functioning government with judges & courts, local representatives (governors, mayors, etc.), law enforcement & other first responders, hospitals, schools, etc.

A caliphate (in Arabic: خلافة‎ khilafa, meaning “succession”) is an Islamic state led by a supreme religious and political leader known as a caliph — i.e. “successor” — to Muhammad. The succession of Muslim empires that have existed in the Muslim world are usually described as “caliphates”. Conceptually, a caliphate represents a sovereign polity (state) of the entire Muslim faithful (the Ummah, i.e. a sovereign nation state) ruled by a single caliph under the Constitution of Medina and Islamic law (sharia).

In its earliest days, the first caliphate, the Rashidun Caliphate, exhibited elements of direct democracy (shura). It was led, at first, by Muhammad’s immediate disciples and family as a continuation of the religious systems he had introduced.

The Sunni branch of Islam stipulates that as a head of state, a caliph should be elected by Muslims or their representatives. […]

en.wikipedia.org

Also, and perhaps just as importantly, the Caliph would need to be someone who neither asks for nor is covetous of the position. Good luck with that.*

It has been narrated by Abu Musa who said:

Two of my cousins and I entered the apartment of the Prophet (ﷺ). One of them said: Messenger of Allah, appoint us rulers of some lands that the Almighty and Glorious God has entrusted to thy care. The other also said something similar. He said: We do not appoint to this position one who asks for it nor anyone who is covetous for the same.

Sahih Muslim
Book 33, Hadith 17

—————————————————

*There are also other personality & character traits that would be looked for. Back in Texas we once had an Iraqi guy who was on the board of directors of the local mosque who one day proclaimed himself “Emir of [city name]”. He basically got himself laughed right off of the board.

Irony: Laredo and Nuevo Laredo were the same city until the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo ceded its land to the United States. The people in Laredo held a referendum and voted to petition the American military government that was in charge to return the town to Mexico. They were denied, so the bulk of the population went across the river and founded Nuevo Laredo.

re: #86 Charles Johnson

Actually, to be precise Breivik didn’t mention me at all. All the links to LGF in his manifesto are in blog posts by other people that he included in the manifesto.

I’m just trying to determine how the rwnj gets the number of mentions of LGF.

I looks like they did a search on Little Green Footballs and littlegreenfootballs.com and then added them up. I doubt they read the manifesto to see how you were spoken of. The only points I found were about how you changed teams.

The way the rwnjs did their research is typical of their methods, be as shallow as possible, ignore context and count every instance as supporting their point.

Also, and perhaps just as importantly, the Caliph would need to be someone who neither asks for nor is covetous of the position. Good luck with that.*

—————————————————

*There are also other personality & character traits that would be looked for. Back in Texas we once had an Iraqi guy who was on the board of directors of the local mosque who one day proclaimed himself “Emir of [city name]”. He basically got himself laughed right off of the board.

I’m just happy this guy isn;t getting his own caliphate

To each his own. I fly it because I like to, not because I need to prove anything to anyone. Yes, I do love my country but I also admit there are many things we have done as a nation that I am NOT proud of. Vietnam, Iraq, Jim Crow, Slavery…to name a few.

I fly it for all the brave people who fought and died, even in a “dumb war”. Maybe especially for them. I fly it to remind myself of the ideal of America.

I have hardly any neighbors and live at the end of nowhere. There is no passing traffic. So it is not for others that I fly the flag, it is for me.

One should not be judged on whether or not they choose to fly a flag.

Mark my words, it’s only a matter of time until the historical revisionists twist things around in order to make Muslim responsible for the Holocaust—i.e. they’ll assert that the Nazis learned their “Jew hate” from devout Muslims.

Although he’s a bufoon and possibly mentally ill he does present a problem in that he’s recruiting young Muslims in Britain to join ISIS

The preacher from banned group Need4khilafah was spotted at a barbecue in Cardiff where militants waved the banner of the militant group Isis. Reyaad Khan, Nasser Muthana, both 20, and Muthana’s 17-year-old brother Aseel were seen handing out leaflets for a group linked to Waleed outside a mosque in the city.

What’s even stupider about that is that IIRC, Dr. Lizardo is a Sufi. You’d think it would be as simple as asking the right questions.

I’m well aware of what a Sufi is. I lived a few blocks away from a sufi community center when I lived in Greece as a kid.

You demonstrated that you didn’t know what the fuck a Sufi was in a conversation with Dr. Lizardo: you weren’t aware that they could either be Sunni or Shi’ite.

Just pretending your fuckups didn’t happen isn’t working.

These numbnuts seem to ignore that there are drug lords and human traffickers who will tunnel under the steel fencing in places along the border in CA, TX, AZ, and NM and barbed wire will simply be cut. For idle amusement, if you word search The Blind Watchman you will discover the word Jesus is used once. And that’s not the quote.

Sometimes clouds, through the random kneading and carving of the winds, come to look like familiar objects. There is a much published photograph, taken by the pilot of a small aeroplane, of what looks a bit like the face of Jesus, staring out of the sky. We have all seen clouds that reminded us of something - a sea horse, say, or a smiling face. — pp 45-46

re: #158 CuriousLurker

They’ve indeed tried that route (claiming the Nazis learned the anti-Semitic hate from Muslims); it’s about the links between the Grand Mufti and the Nazis before WWII. There were indeed common goals and trying to hem in the British who controlled the Middle East along with the French after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire.

What’s ignored by those folks is that Hitler came to his anti-Jewish hatred independent of any Muslim influence. And anti-Semitism had a long history independent of Muslim influence in Germany and Austria going back hundreds of years. That he found common cause with the Mufti isn’t surprising considering their shared goals of thwarting the British.

Only some of the most insanely over powered hand guns require that. 99% of hand guns can be easily and safely fired with one hand. My usual practice routine include shooting single handedly with my weak hand as well as my dominant hand.

Now, tactically, engaging a dangerous threat with a child in your arms is just plain ignorance. Seek cover & concealment. Place innocents there. Move AWAY from them, then engage the threat. But that doesn’t make a good picture…

Ouch.

What happens when you fire a 30/30 when you’re not holding the rifle correctly. In my case, it was a relaxed shoulder. I learned my lesson after that shot, press the damn butt of the rifle squarely in your shoulders and hold that fucker tight!

Of course not, because in the twisted logic of people who approve of these sorts of pictures, a person with a gun doesn’t need to run. Only a “victim” runs, a gun wielder runs at the danger because it’s a magic talisman that will protect them from harm.

I tweeted this. Too good.

David Weigel is writing a book about progressive rock’s heyday and has been interviewing all the big players of the prog rock era of the 60s, 70s and 80s. I, for one, can’t wait to get the book (I like Weigel’s writing and reporting and sense of humor).

This quote. This fucking quote.

That’s twice today that a comment of mine ended up on a thread right when a new thread is created.

I don’t understand all the hate, vitriol and slander that befalls Charles regularly. I mean, I thought this site was irrelevant!

It comes from watching too many movies where the hero(es) walk or run unscathed through a hail of flying bullets before they shoot the bad guys dead with one shot each.

Depends what caliber and how well trained you are with your every day carry (EDC). 9mm and even .45 are manageable with your strong hand unsupported. Now if you have a .45 sub-compact, that will kick, but not enough that you’d likely knock yourself in the forehead. I’d never EDC anything other than a 9mm. Heck. I’d never EDC anything to begin with.

I like my .38 special revolver these days. More than enough for most police for over a century and still doing just fine. More than enough for me. Now when I was in the army my carry was a .45 ACP 1911 but that’s just how it was. I am getting one again but that’s nostalgia; if I feel the need to carry (and, yes, I have a license) it will be my DAO Model 10 revolver loaded like the FBI did.

I cannot think of anything I’d want to do less than read a book by Fund and von Spakovski. Scooping out my eyeballs with a spoon would be preferable—in fact, would be pleasurable by comparison.

I don’t think that is universally taught.

That’s one of the reasons I have problems with ammosexuals.

It’s a rather neat and tidy staged photo, but that’s about it. A realistic one would be her fumbling in her jacket for her gun while trying to avoid dropping her child.

The first thing I thought was that her kids were going to be deaf and terrified.
