Which is the same problem that fucked Romney in 2012. He had run WAAY to the right to win the nomination then desperately scurry back to the center to try and win the General. Some of the right wing nutjobs bailed on him because they thought he was a RINO and few independents were swayed by his newly centrist stance on the issues.

McCain did the same thing and whoever the R nominee is next will do. You can bank on it. That kind of bullshit is precisely how Romney “won” the first debate by wiping his hands completely of 2012 primary candidate Romney. Fortunately Obama called him out on his bullshit and won the last two debates and Biden beat Ryan.
