I’m not of the opinion that calling out the outright hypocrisy of “thoughts and prayers, and nothing will be done” is fatalism. It is motivation to get people in office who will do something more than claim to clasp hands in prayer.

It is the Republicans in office who are beholden to the NRA who claim “nothing can be done.”

Personally, I’m thinking more in terms of “the Republicans are just going to block it” or “we’ll never hear Democrats on TV because of the media” or “the Koch’s will just throw more money at races.” If we predict what the Republicans will do, and don’t act just because we’ve decided not to, then we do their job for them.
