Toleration is not an ideology, it is a tactic that enables a smooth, functioning society when a large enough proportion of the citizenry follow it. Similar to herd immunity, if large enough numbers are intolerant a functioning and peaceful society is impossible.

Tolerance isn’t a goal, it’s a tool. And no tool is right for every job.
