The internet is transformative, for sure, but I personally think the only thing the internet contributed to “incel” is that these guys got together and came up with a team name. There were assaults and rapes before the internet.

How about the flip side? I think it would have been much harder to bring down Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby without the internet, because it would have been harder for these women to go “Hey, that’s what my story sounds like.”

I think a lot of how bad things like the Trumpkins, white supremacists (but I repeat myself), conspiracy theorists (but I…aw, fuck it), MRAs have gotten, both in number and intensity of hate and craziness, is because they can find each other and work like feed forward activation.
