I’ve never done any serious Talmudic study… but we’re told repeatedly that the whole point of it is debate and interpretation and rebuttals of Torah portions. That there is no “right” answer, it’s the considering all possibilities that’s important. The Torah is short enough you could read it in a few hours; the Talmud is so huge you’d never get through it all in an entire lifetime.

The Talmud Bavli contains 20 volumes, which is a lot, but if you learn 2 pages a day it takes about 7 years to complete the entire cycle.

Z has completed a Siyum Hashas several times. 4 of my sons, and my oldest grandson, have completed the cycle at least once.
