Many years back it was clear that my grandma had Alzheimer’s, and her degenerated skill and ability behind the wheel made her a danger to herself and others.

One of her adult children made the tough decision to contact the DMV with medical evidence and get her DL pulled.

She fought for two years to get it back, and she did. After failing (miserably) several written tests*, failing several driving tests (one which ended before even pulling out of the parking stall at the DMV for nearly running over three people).

The day they finally did pass her, I was waiting out front of the DMV on a blazing hot summer’s day, and saw her coming down the road with her windshield wipers going. A car she owned for many years, and she couldn’t figure out how to turn them off, or remember how they got turned on. And that’s the day she passed and got her DL back after two years of epic fail.

Something is wrong when that kind of thing happens.

*I took the same written test, that same year she had. And without studying, nor having the benefit of “driver’s ed” :mumblety: years prior, I nailed it 100%
