re: #178 stabby
Or, alternately - and this a theory to which I’ve subscribed in a sort of half-hearted way for a while - Homo sapiens is ideally adapted to a high-stress, threat-filled environment, and, in the absence of obvious and genuine threats, must recreate that primal environment wherever he finds himself, in much the same way as astronauts must bring with them a simulated or condensed version of their earthly habitat (water, a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen in appropriate ratios, etc.). It may be that we somehow need this sort of thing, and can and will make it when it’s not otherwise present to us.
