I didn’t realize until I was in my teens that it’s not normal to hear a high-pitched tone (roughly 16.5 kHz range) in a quiet room.
I turned the speakers up very loud with my ears next to them when I was 3.
I don’t do concerts without earplugs.
It would be normal if there were a TV with a CRT in the room. The tone would be coming from the flyback transformer used to light up the CRT.
No TV in the room, then you’ve got problems.
