On top of which, anyone who DOES manage to put away a little money in an MSA - say, somebody self-employed but moderately successful - will think it’s a great idea, right up until they actually get sick and discover just how fast it vanishes!

As someone who was/is self-employed and had crappy, expensive insurance until I aged into Medicare, I can testify that it would normally take all year, during a financially good year, to put enough money in my MSA to almost cover the deductible. And even then, the crappy plan didn’t cover much of anything other than catastrophic situations.
