I almost got run over by a deer on a quiet street in the East Bay a while ago.

Animal control was rather irritated with me when I suggested they try to get it before it caused havoc on San Pablo Avenue.

Here at Rossmoor in Walnut Creek we share with herds of wild turkeys, thousands of deer and a few coyotes.

Rumor has it we have a puma or two as well - I’ve never seen one or any sign - but with that many deer around and all the open space there must be one or two.

Mountainview Cemetery in Oakland has at least one puma (an occasional partially eaten dear carcass is the indicator) and much smaller deer population.
