I think the GTI might have topped out under 115 mph, not that I ever pushed it that far.

The Challenger is electronically limited to about 145, which can be removed if your tires are rated higher than the stock ones. That apparently will get you to about 160.

I used to drive the hell out of the GTI. I don’t think I ever upshifted below 4000 rpm. I used all the accelerator’s travel, A LOT.

The Challenger? I’ve floored it a couple times, when nobody was around. Holy Shit!

Let’s just say I don’t drive it anywhere near the edge of its envelope.

A lot of people don’t realize that the limiters are mostly due to tires and suspension, not a limitation of the engine or transmission. My wife’s Town Car is limited to around 110, but the core components are the same as a Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser (minus some top-end horsepower), and it could probably do 150 all day long and not even notice if the tires or air suspension wouldn’t explode at the slightest provocation.
