I have no problem with defense being the largest expenditure by far - it’s the core of what the feds are supposed to do. I get that there’s tons of waste, and I get that we are not allowed to see a certain amount of the spending, and what it’s being spent on. At the end of the day, we have some badass shit and a very strong defense. I understand why all that is necessary. But 500 billion? What if it were 5 trillion? 50 trillion? At some point, I get uneasy about it.

No one shapes nature the way we do. We take atoms and molecules, and by the time we’re finished with them, they’re everything from combat boots to bombs, the kind of bombs no one from the other side will ever see until the damn thing’s plowing down their chimney like Santa Claus from hell!
