I know I’m being pedantic, but the Warsaw Pact was created to counter NATO.

NATO founded: 1949
Warsaw Pact founded: 1955

you got me on that one. point is, now that WP is defunct, NATO has really lost its reason to exist, and expanding it to include nations on the borders of Russia was really unnecessary.
